N91 Freezing Driving Me Mad!

16 replies · 7,557 views · Started 31 July 2006

Hi All,

What is it with these phones. I have read many reports on this forum of people having the same freezing problems. How can Nokia release a phone with such problems. Its driving me mad and I've only had the phone 2 weeks. It locks up about 6/7 times a day and normally as your in the midlle of something.

I have taken info out of the phone:

RM43_8497525 V1.10.024
DRIVERVER-10/03/2005, 1.0.0.0

Is this an old crap firmware? Are the later ones better? What are Nokia doing about it?

Going to take it back to the car phone warehouse tomorrow if it lasts that long ( I may stamp on it!)

Lolboy.

Doublecheck the apps you have installed on it since you got it and the files you put in it. make sure you follow the helpful hints thread by music101....it helps.

mostly the reason for any major freezes will be down to some thing other than music or video trying to access the phone's hard drive in the background whilst you use other memory intensive apps.

its a common thing even on computers, its just a matter of knowing whats running and taking good care not to push the device to its limits nonchalantly.

OK, went to car phone warehouse.

They told me to put up with it for another week or two as there is a new software coming out for these phones and they will update it then.

Can anyone confirm this?

Lolboy.

version 1.10 is the latest software. check what yours is....just type in *#0000#

i'm guessing you have version 1.0, but be sure and tell us here.

i'm taking mine in for an upgrade too.

If I type in *#000# it doesn't do anything. It thinks about it for a few seconds then comes back with some error report about not being able to carry out function.

I found my info in the file manager.

Is *#0000#.

If you type *#0000#, nothing special happens, only You can see what is Your software version. Last, I thing is: RM-43 V 1.11.003

Hi

Like I posted in my helpful hints the software is

1) The SW

- 1.00.28.xx note these final two numbers show the language etc it does not indicate that a release is later or earlier
- 1.01.xx (cant remember the last two)
- 1.10.30 The latest one that I am using
- 1.11.xx (again cant remember the last two but this was the same as 1.10 but with something for Russia and France or something?)

Check your SW version by entering *#0000#

There is no 1.10.024. I suspect you have 1.00.28 and the update they are talking about is 1.10.30.

good luck

PS: You do not have to get the SW updated at Carphone, just take it to the Nokia Service centre

OK, now that's weird...if I type *#0000# in now it works!

It comes back with v1.10.030 04-05-06 RM-43 N91(50.01)

Well, now You know the version and is not the last one!

Hi

Hi - as my list latest 1.10 is the latest (1.11 was a version for Russia, France etc). I believe the folowing with end the freezing

a) Make sure all the message tones and ringtones you use are not short beeps but rather full ringtones

b) Make sure you keypadtones are switched off

c) Do not use the HDD for storing your messages

Also - rumour is a version of sw is on the way with Windows DRM support and you will be able to get it at a secrvice center OR vis the internet at home !!

After the desapoitment it was N93, I have mine N91 - great device! better then I think...
c) - Why?
Sometimes I have a error about Messages in HDD, other times everything work without problems.
When it was in USB mass storage, the problem cames, others dont?
Do you know why?

Hi

The reason why you want to avoid using the HDD as message memory is for energy management reasons (each time youget an sms it spins up the HDD etc. Also when you want to use USB MAss storage youhave to switch the messaging memory back to phone memory because of the way Symbian handles USB MAss storage and the messaging application "holds on" to the HDD (its annoying).

Trust me stick to phone memory 😊
