Symbian signs ARM, HP, Motorola SPS, RealNetworks and Texas

The Symbain press office has reported that ARM, HP, Motorola SPS, RealNetworks and Texas have signed as Platinum development partners. This was announced at the Symbian Partner Event (SPE) in London today. What surprises me is the inclusion of HP in the list. However I don't think too much can be read into HP joining, apart from the fact that they are at last taking Symbian seriously.

What's better news is the fact that there are now 20 Symbian OS products under development!!!!! 😃 😃 😃

They've been saying that for ages.

I really hope that 20 devices are being developed 😊

But after all the device announcements that have been expected recently and come to nothing (see 7650i and New Communicator threads) I choose not to believe anything until a company officially announces a specific device with a firm specification.

However I'm sure that at least some new devices will be announced in the not too distant future 😃

There's an interesting take on this at The Register.

Is The Beast losing its grip on the manufacturers' short'n'curlies?, or will it tighten the restrictions on their ability to innovate?
