I have had my N80 for 2 days. I bought it from plemix.com, with very fast shipping from Hong Kong. Im not exaclty sure why it came from Hong Kong, but it did. I am located on the East Coast of the US.
When I first started using the N80, it seemed fine. I charged it fully and followed all the instructions to get my settings correct.
The OS starting acting very strange, a bit sluggish actually. Then while browsing the internet on my wireless network i got a "Memory full - please close some app lications" message. I dont know how to close applications, or get to an virtual "Task Manager" to close floating programs. I assume this memory issue is what is causing all my other problems. One of the biggest is that i cannot load my "Gallery" for "Images and Video". It will flash onto the Gallery, flash the background, and then flash over to some other menu, either the home screen or a menu screen that I neccessarily didnt have open. Sometimes the Camera will do the same thing.
I noticed when installing my first App [Metro], that the App settings under App Manager/Settings were set to "Sftwre Installations - ALL and Online Cert. Check - OFF". Is there anyway I have picked up a virus or adware from browsing the internet with these options set???
Also, is there a key combination to bring up programs that are running in the background, so I can close them and free up memory? I have no idea why I have ran out of memory with nothing running, i dont get it.
Any help is appreciated.
Is a new phone without almost any apllications installed. Wich is the software version of the phone? Is the last one?
Not sure how to tell, Plemix is an Ebay store, I assumed it was a new phone, the package was sealed.
How do I tell the firmware version??
try pressing and holding the menu key, this should bring up a list of running applications, close down the ones that you do not need. also try moving any applications that rae on the c: (fone memory) to the e: (mini sd memory) if you have installed loads of stuff on the the c: this may sslow it doen or cause it to crash
hope this helps...
ps *#0000# show the lastest firmware
in the uk it is (or at leat i hope it is);
v 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (31.01)
Yah mines the same except:
V 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (11)
Thanks for the Hold Menu trick, but nothings running except the "Standby" obv.
I was getting the "Memory full" message while surfing the internet on my wireless network, and trying to save a picture after loading it. But now it seems to work.
Im getting the Memory Full message also on this App I installed called "Metro." So Im thinking it mihgt be the App.
I just removed all extraneous files i had on my phone memory including apps and photos and moved them to my mini sd card. I also uninstalled the extra apps.
Powercycled the phone and the Gallery still wont open. I dont get it, I tried to do a reset last night when I was having the issue so it would maybe set something back that had been changed. I found a hard reset "Power cycle - Green Button - DEF3 - *+" It kinda worked, it cleared out some data I had, but im still having the problem.
Is there any other reset I can try?
You can always do a soft format: *#7370#.
try;
Hard/Soft Reset phone!!!??? thread,
maybe some usefull here for you.
only other option i can think of is connect n80 to pc and use data suite to go thru all the folders and see if there is anything you can get rid of. once in data suite and you can see the fones c: & e: drives, right click on each and check the properties to see how much space you have left, if you have loads of space and both, it maybe issue with fone itself....
Ok, i removed the Mini SD card, the battery and the SIM card. Let it sit for a few minutes without the battery to reset anything lingering. I reinstalled the SIM and battery and left the mini sd card out. started up and seems to work fine. gallery loads fine, internet works.
I figured id do a soft format while i was at it to restore anything else. But I dont know what to use when it asks for the "Lock Code" ??
Do i need the factory code to do the soft format??
I have a 2gb mini sd card on the way to em from Newegg.com, it should be here tommorow, maybe ill just leave the mini sd out for now in case its the problem, maybe it needs to be formatted.
Thanks Again
It gives attention, that the memory is a problem in the Symbian modern phones, such as it relates the SteveL here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Why_the_penny-pinching_over_RAM.php, here and with some tips here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Keeping_It_Clean.php
