Ok, got my N80 from Orange yesterday and well happy with it, but not sure about something.
Basically the 3G icon under the signal bar constantly has those little back and forward arrows under it. Now on my 6680 they only appeared when something was being sent/received and disappeared once it was done. On the N80 it's permenantly there. I have changed the Packet Data Connection setting to "When Needed" instead of "When Available" as I thought it may be that, but it hasn't made a difference. Just concerned that it's keeping the connection open and running up my bill?
I am aware that holding the red key gives you the option to kill off the packet connection but it comes back on every time I turn my phone on.
It has been suggested that it is due to the Photography software Orange pre-installs but I have changed the setting so Autostart is off and it still happens when I turn my phone back on. I also disabled the Photography service completely and it still happens. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Russ
Flash the firmware to the generic version, it's a fault with the Orange firmware.
I wouldn't worry about the bill, if you check how much data's actually being sent (under active connections) you'll probably find that it's hardly anything (under a kilobyte usually).
Ok well thats good to know. I'm not confident enough to attempt re-flashing the firmware myself, not just to fix that issue, maybe when the next release comes out and if it covers anything thats annoying me. Now all I have to do is wait for Tomtom to sort their act out and I will be happy with my N80

Which will need Nokia to sort out their act first... 😉
I believe that if you ring Orange CS they will send a sim update that stops it
Are you seeing two arrows with dotted lines?
If so... this is NORMAL! its always like that.
When youre actually using the data connection, that icon will be have solid lines.
If it IS solid lines, go to:
Menu > Connectivity > Conn. Mgr > Active data connections.
In here you can see what is active, how much data if ANY is being transferred, and also disconnect the connection.
No it isn't, if you have it set to 'when needed' then there should be no lines at all.

Not on my one!!
Mines always been set to "When Needed" (On 9 different N80s now) and it always shows the dotted lines. To me the dotted lines indicate that a connection is available.
