Hi
ive just got an n80 on o2 contract and im wondering if o2 will have a record of my internet usage when I connect via wifi?
I know if i use their connections (gprs etc) then they will monitor but will they if i use a hotspot or my wifi at home? If so is there anyway I can stop it?
Im all for anonymous browsing.
thanks
laurie
will they track my net usage with wifi?
Your cellular operator will not see or bill you for your WLAN/WiFi usage. Your broadband operator will, of course, as the traffic goes through their systems.
Now, some phone operators are also broadband operators, and if you subscribe to both services from the same company, then all traffic goes through that company's systems.
Not that they're likely to be interested in what you do in any case, unless billing for usage gets involved. or network problems or illegal activities needs to be tracked down and leads to IP addresses tracked to your home or devices). I'm not suggesting that you would do anything, but those three reasons are the only ones where an operator would be interested in tracking what you do.
Wi-Fi is an independet network. Only the owner of Wi-Fi network have the capacity of doing that... if is your operator, wich is not the case in most situations.
ok thank you.
its not an illegal activity question its just i wasnt sure.
I was just amazed once rang my mobile provider as i had a problem with a download whilst using their inetrnet connection and they just listed my activity and told me exactly when the problem occured and why!!!
thanks laurie
