Hi All.
I am using a video converter program called xilsoft video converter, but problem is when i covert the files to mp4 and try to play the file on my nokia n73 it says that the file is not supported even though the realplayer in the phone supports the mp4 format i believe. anyone know any other program that will work after conversation. Thanks
Make sure you choose a display resolution and audio codec supported by the phone. http://forum.nokia.com/video
Iv had my n73 a few days now and have been experimenting with different software to get high quality mp4 or even 3gp videos on my device. I just tonight came across a program called WinAVI iPod/PSP/3GP/MP4 Video Converter 3.1 you can download it from here. I havent been able to get the mp4 to work, this is due to my computer crashing always, (problems lol) but having used the 3gp encoder have gotten very high quality video results.
Try these settings I think you will be amazed how it looks.
From the main screen click the 3gp button,
select your video file you would like to convert (also supports vob files,
after you click open click the advanced button,
set video size to: 320 x 240,
set video bit rate to: 384000,
now click the encode tab,
make sure adjust to height and adjust to witch are unchecked (unless you wanna alter the aspect),
next if you dont want the letterbox effect of your videos (only wastes space and videos look ok without them), check the 4:3 circle in the source aspect section.
now click ok to close this window, then ok ok the next window to begin encoding.
The results are amazing, hope this helps.
hey, azzy . does it work if u convert files to 3gp with ur xilisoft. maybe N/A is right. u'd better chose paras...
After downloading the Xilisoft software, and converting the video files I have to either MP4 or 3GPP, the image appears on my N73, but it says Unable to play media clip?
I have checked on the nokia website link showing the bitrates etc...for the N73 and changed these before converting, anyone have any more ideas as to why it doesn't work?
Cheers,
no idea about your problem.
. as a user, you may ask supportors of xilisoft.
I read a lot of good references about SUPER. I already have it, but confess, no experince yet!
i have choose xilisoft caz its easy to use and really user-friendly.
i read some introductions about SUPER. its also a powerful tool.
I used to get an error when converting .avi files to .3gp in Super. A quick browse of the help and all is ok now. You have to enable the "Use Directshow" feature of Super. Works flawlessly now 😉
Maybe your phone requires different settings with what xili offered, which can work for most of phones. u may e-mail to the support team of xili.
I use yasa 3gp video converter to convert video to 3gp video. It works great.
http://www.yasasoft.com/3gpvideoconverter/
And I try SUPER, and can now confirm, is great. The final movie is of good quality.
What I use in Super, looks good!
15 fps for h.264 at 384kbs
go to H.264 profile and choose Baseline & 1.2
Use 44100 128KBs audio
Check stretch it to make widescreen fit full 320 x 240 screen
Watch in real player as it works great, no need for other software.:icon14:
I would echo the use of SUPER. Its really comprehensive and works a treat (although the user interface can be a little confusing, but stick with it)

I'm using the programm you advised, but those settings aren;t getting me anywhere.
I did get it to work though I than tried converting to 3gp and it works.
I can now use the realplayer on my phone :P
edit: the program discribed above is shareware and leaves an imprint in your movie, I found a better program for it later on: Acala 3GP, just search for it on google, you can't miss it 😉
good luck!
I used Mark22's settings with SUPER. I got fantastic video, but the audio was out of sync. Does anyone know how to fix this?...

Yeah I got Imtoo and the 3gp conversion when u turn up the settings is perfect. BUT, I dont think u can make a stereo 3gp. So... back to the mpeg4 conversion. I just can not get an mpeg4 to play. I've tried everything. The fone sees it in there and then just says can not play. Anyone worked this one out yet?
Try ffmpeg with something like this:
ffmpeg -i yourmovie.avi -vcodec xvid -hq -qscale 5 -r 15 -4mv -trell -s 320x240 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 32000 -ab 64 yourmovie.mp4
-qscale is the quality.
rename it to whatever.3gp for a 3gp-file.
Quicktime Pro also works fine.
Cheers.
I use Super myself and find it to be a good program for converting to 3gp.
The settings I use for my N73 are:
Output Container=3gp Nokia/NEC/Siemens
Output Video Codec=H263
Output Audio Codec=AMR Narrow Band or AAC (Try experimenting with this)
VIDEO
Video Scale=176x144
Aspect=11:9
Frames p/sec=12 or 15
Bitrate kbps=144
High Quality=Checked
Stretch it=Checked
AUDIO
Sampling Freq=8000
Channels=1
Bitrate kbps=13
DVD Language Select=Default.
Experiment with these settings to get the best, but the above seem to give some good returns.
The N73 like the N80 Supports the superior Mp4-AVC file format so i dont understant why people insist on using the lower quality 3gp file format. Its like having a DVD player but only playing VCDs on it.
Use Super and Import the attached profile (Right Click on Supers Main Window and Select "Import (Load) An External Super(C) Profile"😉 to convert any files into Mp4 AVC file format playable on your N80/N73.
It roughly equates to about 15mb for 3 minutes of video although size can be reduced easily by downgrading the audio settings
But video quality is amazing.
Let me kno how u get on...
4Site how did u work that out?..???..TOTALLY sorted now. Thanks man...Converts everything to a great qual mpeg4 and produces amazing stereo sound on my N73. (providing a good source of course) I played around with different configs. I found that for widescreen movies and tv shows like lost, prison break etc, simply choose video scale size 320x240, select 16:9 and 15 fps. I tried higher fps but my N73 wasnt having it. Everything else like Southpark, Family guy, Simpsons, Alex Jones reports... just change the aspect to 4:3 for full screen business. UNTICK the "stretch it" box if u dont like your widescreen movies being stretched and look wierd.
When you hear it on the stereo N73 you will be amazed. Forget 3gp forever. I've been waiting for this for ages!
Thanks 4Site!
I got peed off wid watching prison break/family guy/simpsons/lost in crappy 3gp quality on the tube to work when i knew both my N80 and N73 (yes i'm that lucky) phones supported Mp4-AVC so i did a lil research found out bout super used nokia media guide and after a few attempts hey presto.
Sum1 should pin that profile cause video conversions a topic that keeps coming up over and over again with ppl being mislead into using inferior conversions.
Hi
New to all this, tried 4Site method with importing settings into Super to convert avi Mp4 AVC format, did a simpsons episode, but it will not play in real play on N73 , not even reconised in Divx or Smartmovie.
Total newb, so any help appreciatted
try to check out my thread in the N80 forum its more detailed
Just to clarify some video things (i'm a videogeek, sorry).
3gp and mp4 are containers as well as avi, mov, mpg and so on.
Then we have the codecs as h.263, h.264, mpeg-4 SP/ASP, divx...
3gp i just a kind of tighter container of mp4 so it's possible to use h.264/AVC and AAC in a 3gp container but not with the same resolutions and bitrates as in a mp4 container. It's also possible to have h263 video and AMR audio with it's crappy quality in a mp4 container.
Cheers.

Hi nj7 - I have a nokia n73. I have been trying for the last 3 hours to convert .AVI file on Super so that I can view it on my phone, but every option that I have chosen thus far has been unable. What settings do you use?

SUPER
1. 3gp; 2. mpeg4; 3. AAC;
Video: 320x240; 4/3; 15fps; 384kbps; - or another combination here (more quality / more size).
I used Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum selecting iPod settings.
It ripped to mp4 with postbox bars, video and audio in sync, v good image quality, about 450MB for a 1.5 hr movie
