Opera recently announced that more than one billion pages have been viewed with its JME browser Opera Mini. To celebrate Ewan takes another look at Opera Mini and concludes that, for his usage scenarios, it is the perfect mobile browser.

I use it most days on my Nokia 6670, either free via my Bluetooth/home broadband, or sometimes via GPRS (luckily data costs are minimised since most pages are only a few kilobytes). Considering the 6670 is now a few years ago, it's an example of "old technology" working just as well as new-fangled phones. Google Maps (google.com/gmm) is another useful Java MIDlet application (like Opera Mini) which works well on my "old" phone (was useful in finding a street in France this summer whilst on-the-move).
I find Opera Mini complements the Web browser on my N80, when I am accessing a WiFi hotspot where data bandwidth and therefore cost is not an issue I use Web.
When I am connected to 3G/EDGE/GPRS through Vodafone I use Opera Mini, this way it keeps the data costs at a reasonable level.
On my Opera Mini 2.0 version fpr Nokia N90 downloaded on monday there are four (!) options on the home screen:
1. enter web adress
2. My eBay
3. search eBay
4. search google (with optional other search engines)
Obviously, your OM 2.0 is different than mine!
After having tested Opera 8.6 and Opera Mini 2.0 on the N90 I have to say, that Opera Mini is more stable, more usable and definitely faster (due to compression).
The Opera 8.6 version is definitely more powerful, has some nice usability enhancements, but it simply takes MUCH longer to fully load pages and sometimes it just stopped accepting any input or commands. And in many instances I couldnt scroll down a page while it was still loading parts, whereas that wasnt a problem in OM 2.0.
MarcTGFG:
You are situated in Germany , right? Opera Software has done a deal with eBay about pushing a Opera Mini version with eBay on the front page in Germany (they have to get some money from Opera Mini somewhere, dont they...).
In fact, Opera Software has got a competition going where you can win 400 Euros worth of mobile phone (http://my.opera.com/community/blog/show.dml/384299), if you access and use eBay through Opera Mini in Germany...
