I'm looking to replace the firmware on my Orange N80 with the standard unbranded one.
I've seen the site with the instructions, but there are loads of different files in the N80 folder:
N80_RM-92_APAC_PR_dp_v12.00_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:42 83M
N80_RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.00_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:44 108M
N80_RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.01_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:47 62M
N80_RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.02_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:49 73M
N80_RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.03_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:49 24M
RM-92_APAC_PR_dp_v12.03_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:50 9.3M
RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.02_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:54 73M
RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.04_SW3.0618.0.2.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:54 58M
RM-92_EMEA_PR_dp_v12.05_SW3.0617.0.6.exe 09-Jul-2006 01:55 9.3M
I can't find anything to say which is what. I guessed that v12.03 (5th down) would be what I'm after, but then I noticed it was 24Mb compared to 108Mb for v12.00.
Can anyone put a stop to my confusion?
Cheers.
Have a look here, it may be easier for you to follow and understand what you need
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/46864/
I have V01 language pack, but I think V08 is also western Europe including English
Follow the instructions EXACTLY and you will be fine.
Of course as always you do this at your own risk.
Thanks Cash, but that thread doesn't mention anything about flashing!
OOpps, sorry my fault, try the link again, I have changed it
Sorry
Thanks Cash. I have the files now. Just waiting for my brother to come over so we can do them both at once.
Slightly confused by the V08 etc bit. Are these versions just different language packs? Or does it need to match where the phone came from?
My current firmware is:
V 3.0617.0.6
RM-92
Nokia N80 (31.01)
these are just language packs, the main firmware is one of the other files in the download, I am english and have v01, I also believe V08 also has english.
here is a point in the software installation where you have to apply the crack, you have to do this in a split second or the crack misses some of the files and you will need to install the pheonix software again and try to crack it faster.
Also when you are installing the firmware to the phone it may ask you if you want to continue a couple of times, just press yes and it will be fine.
Dont forget though that you will be voiding your warrantee when you upgrade them yourself.
And you are doing it at your own risk ..
My only concern was that it would be American English and not British and that some of the dictionary words (color, organize) would be American.
I know it's at my own risk and voids the warranty - but from what I've read they don't much care when you send one back faulty.

With V01...when I spell colour it spells it the correct way ... that is colour...the british way 😊
Sorry guys from US .. just having a little friendly dig 😊
Thanks again for the reassurance.
I'm on my third attempt at installing Phoenix and the crack. Although I'm installing the crack, and overwriting files as soon as I've clicked the retry button, it fails eventually telling me there's no DESkey (dongle?).
I'm going to keep trying, if anyone has any tips I'd be grateful.

You have to be really really quick when clicking the crack .. lighteneng quick .. really ..took me 4 times to get it right, and 3 times the second time when I did my mates phone ..

The 3.0618 firmware is "3" network firmware, so stay away from it unless you want all the "3" crap, the latest Generic firmware is 3.0617...use that.
where it has the V12.01 for example, I think the 12 is the region i.e. europe, or asia, the .01 is the language contained V01 and V08 are western Eropean and include british english.
Go here and follow instructions, its quite easy and simple to do http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/46864/, I am English and have V01 in my phone, because its the generic firmware it the version doesnt show like v12.01, it just shows as v01.
Thanks . I think I get it now. Whats APAC and EMEA and why is there a big diff in size? Do I have to install one before the other? i.e install the 108MB file first before the 24MB?

I was under the impression that this version does not add anything to the previous version, apart from some network specific stuff for the "3" network, I may be wrong though.
Could somebody confirm ?
