E61 - strange WIFI/WLAN hiccups

5 replies · 3,702 views · Started 10 August 2006

Hey there,

Is there somebody who shares my fate?

I already searched the whole forum for a problem similar to mine:
In the first few weeks wifi worked like a charm, even with encrypted connections. Now there are strange hiccups, reproduceable in at least two different wifi networks, in university (Enterasys APs) and at home (crappy NETGEAR AP): I can connect, open a site in the browser, but after 1-2 clicks the connection is lost and the phone can't find the AP anymore. After 3-4 tries, the AP is found again, I can continue, then the next hiccup and so on.. really annoying! Same with other applications that use wifi, e.g. Google Maps J2ME, WorldMate..

I already did a complete hard-reset and now only have a minimal set of apps installed. Didn't help!

Have you tried disabling power saving in advanced settings as it seems to cause time-out problems with some wireless routers.

E61DRC you are my hero! and there I was resigned to living with a shaky wlan connection - a compromise I was willing to make in exchange for the other great features of the E61. cheers mate!

Hi,

I have the same problem. May I know which power saving in advance setting are you refering to?

I can only find one for the "Display". Appreciate your help.

You find it here: Settings->Connections->WirelessLAN->Options->Advanced Settings->Power Saving.

The wireless lan works like a charm now... Except that it REALLY eats into battery life. when I browse a bit and forget the browser open the wireless connection stays alive. A few hours later the battery is depleted. Is there any way to auto-disconnect if there is not activity for, say, 10 minutes?
I tried reducing the TX power setting down to 10 mW and then to 4mW. No difference.
