I'm leaving to travel the world on a gap year at the end of the year, and I'd like some kind of device to provide wireless internet acess to various gadgets I have.
So I was wondering, how exactly does wifi on the N80 work? Does it simply allow it to connect to pre-existing wireless networks, or can it broadcast a wireless network, providing it's access to the net via. your ISP to other devices?
For example, I have a Nintendo DS that would be nice to pass the time with while staying in hostels. Will I be able to boot up my N80 and have it broadcast a wireless network that my DS can than connect to?
If not, are there any phone, and preferably Symbian, devices that can do this?
The n80 will only connect to existing wireless conections. When your in the hostels they will probably be encypted with a wep key or something or they may charge you. I stayed in a hotel and they wanted 8 per hour i doubt it will be that much in a hostel if they have a wireless connection.
Are there any kinds of smartphones that broadcast a wifi network? It seems like something that would be perfectly possible, no?
Considering I'll be in China and India, it's not likely I'd have good reception anyways. It'd probably cost about 2 per kb if it could even connect ^^
Yes, you will be able to connnect to your N80 by setting up an Ad-Hoc wifi connection between them.
Weather or not you can share your GPRS/EDGE internet connection to your DS im not sure....
But whats the point? Browser on handset is just as good as DS browser....
The wifi on the handset is mainly designed for Connecting TO a wireless network. EG Wifi Hotspot or a home network.
When you use wifi do you get charged any rates for using the internet?
Only by the WiFi/WLAN hotspot provider, if it isn't a free hotstpot.
