I recently got a Nokia e70 and want to compress some movies to the size of the display to take up less space. My buddy had an iPaq and did this and used a program to make them smaller than 128mb and landscape widescreen with good resolution. Just curious what programs are out there and prefer free.
Thanks!

Not free, but Smartmovie or Makayma video converter can do the job!

Okay, I have the software... now how does it work? What format am I looking to convert to and how do the settings need to read?

I think I've got it figured out here. I just need to fine tune the settings on it. Thanks!
There are a number of posts on SUPER setting in this forum. A lot depends on what you are converting from, but generally you want to go into the H.263 format.
Thanks Rafe. I did some searches before creating this thread and yeilded little. Now that I know what software to use I'll try some more searches using that term. Thanks!

I re read your post and H.263 for video w/AAC for audio is what I'm using but I was wondering more about the other settings to achieve the best PQ w/o taking up too much space since size is also an important consideration.
Also, what would be the best format to convert my ISO DVDs into first since SUPER doesn't seem to like converting ISO to H.263?
try to use xilisoft video converter 3.1
its not free. but u may use the trail version first. its powerful.:icon14:

It's free. And it can convert pretty much every format too. Maybe the only thing it can not do is convert direct from a DVD or CD.
That's pretty much what I was wondering since SUPER is free and seems to be pretty powerful. Just wondering why I would want to pay for something and what it can offer me above what the free option does.

A lot of good remarks about SUPER. I gonna try one of these days.

Super is a lot more flexible than Xilsoft or Imtoo - and its free.
For fast conversion, Smartmovie is hard to beat.

I'm having great luck with SUPER so long as I enable 'DirectShow' and rename the ISO to MPG for ripped DVDs. The only problem is that the volume is pretty quiet using this method where other MPGs I've converted are plenty loud. Hmmm...

Smartmovie is one of the few converters I have tried, that allows you to boost the volume. just set it to 150% before the conversion.

yeah, Super is a lot more flexible caz many paras available, i have the apperence of SUPER. but i think it's not easy to use.

Try to use yasa 3gp video converter. It works great. however it is not free.

There's also CloneDVD Mobile (with trial), which has presets for 3gp. Not sure about the quality though -i'm pressing Spun to .3gp with the preset setting at the moment.
many converters here, and many guides. maybe helpful if u want to compare them.

I'm bumping this thread because I wanted to update it for those that might also be interested in how to do this. Here's a link to a thread I started with some more details on what worked for me.
