SMS screen missing — Nokia N80 — All About Symbian Forum Archive

I know that this issue has been discussed already but I was wondering.

Does any one have the same problem, you get an sms and read the first part the scroll down to the next and find that the left side of the screen is missing
(The first word of each line is only half the word)

I called my local nokia centre and they said to take it to the shop I got it from, so I called them and they said to prove the problem and they will replace the hand set.

My question is

Does any know if replacing the handset will fix this?

I don�t want to stuff around getting a replacement handset if it wont fix the problem.

It is obviously a phone software (firmware) problem. A new handset will fix it only and only if it has a newer firmware version that addresses/fixes this behaviour.

If there is a newer firmware release with a fix, it can also be applied to your phone without changing the actual device.

thats what i was thinking and was trying to figure out why they would replace the hand set...

well im going in to the dealer tomorrow so ill find out what they think.

A new handset may solve the problem because different handsets have different problems, I dont get this problem, or really any other problem with my phone, this time I was lucky.

The only problem is if you exchange your handset you may end up with an N80 with an even more serious problem. If you can put up with it and there are no other problems with your phone then I would wait and see if its fixed in the next firmware, if not then exchange your handset.

i dont think i have any of the other problems which is a good thing i guess.

I know that this question is asked many times but i think it is one of those questions that has to be asked every now and then.

Does any one know what the latest firmware for the N80 is?

My N80 has...

Is this the latest firmware... if it is. Nokia still havent addressed the sms problem where half the words go missing from the left side of the screen...

You have the latest firmware, There has been suggestions that the next firmware will be released sometime in september...I would imagine it will be quite a major upgrade as over the last few months many problems have been seen that really need to be corrected. and I guess this is why its taking so long to be released.

it does suck spending $1011 aus on a phone that still has bugs
