Pocket Ogg from WildPalm is an ogg audio / music player for S60 3rd Edition handsets such as the Nokia N91, 3250, N80, N73 and 5500. Features include gapless audio playback, quick resume, creation an editing of playlists and full telephone integration (music pauses on call).

Why do these companies do this? Release apps with NO TRIAL period.
Do they seriously STILL not understand that customers equate a product with 'No Trial' as being 'No Good'
Their other product Headline has a trial period. I tried it out & then bought it. C'monn Wildpalm, have some confidence in your product or people will just hold out for the free Oggplay.
[UPDATE]
Although the link on mysymbian says No Trial, the wildpalm web site will allow you to download a trial version.
I'm not a big fan of media apps that have a FIVE MINUTE trial period. It's not easy to assess some of it's features like shuffle, gapless playback etc when it'll let you play exactly one & half tracks.
But at least you CAN have a look at it first.
Yeah, as you say it's difficult to assess apps that exit or stop working before you've even had a chance to try them out properly.
As for the free OggPlay, I've got it working on my E60 but there are still a few issues that need sorting out before it's releasable.
My first impressions with S60V3 and the E60 for audio playback are not too good though. Generally OggPlay works better on my Sendo X, there are fewer audio glitches and the audio quality is better (see the other posting about aac+ for more info about audio quality). Annoyingly it also seems to take longer to switch between tracks. Perhaps PocketOgg has the right idea and gapless playback is the way to go...
Hi fig7
Which version of oggplay did you install on your e-series? Has there been a beta released we can have a play with?
R
My main gripe with PocketOgg is that it _only_ plays ogg files. That makes pretty useless, as I'd have to switch to another app to play other formats.
Well, OggPlay only plays ogg files at the moment. I don't yet know what the state of mmf is on S60V3. Maybe we will be able to play mps and aacs and possibly wmas as well, but it might not be possible because of platform security. Obviously you wouldn't expect to be able to play DRM-enabled content but we should, in principle, be able to play everything else.
I've discovered that the slow track switching was not the phones fault, just something to do with my code. It's working fine now, faster than the Sendo X 😊 Expect to see a public release for OggPlay S60V3 in maybe a week or two.
But I've discovered another problem. Whenever you pause, stop or switch tracks there is half a second of hiss. I also get the hiss if I set the volume to zero while playing. It happens on PocketOgg as well, it's not just OggPlay. Has anyone else seen this problem on the E60, E70 or E61!?
Why do these companies do this? Release apps with NO TRIAL period.
Because they're paranoid about losing sales to piracy, and let's face it there's an awful lot of piracy right now. :frown:
I'm not defending the practice of having no trial version, but it's difficult to do a trial version of something like a media player without including all the features, but if you do a time-limited version with all the features there's a danger some cracker will remove the time limit.
With Symbian OS9 once the application is on the phone it is crack proof. No user application can access the files to copy or modify them. With S60V3 all the sis install files have to be signed, which presumably means they are encrypted and also uncrackable.
I think trial versions should include all of the functionality but should give the user enough time to try the product. I thought that when WildPalm said 5 minutes they meant five minutes per session - that would have made sense. But no, they meant five minutes in total! What's the point of that, how can you make your mind up about a complex piece of software in five minutes :icon13:
Steve, if you're working on Oggplay, it would be nice if you could check-in the changes you made so far to the community. I am aware that someone else is working on a port to S60 3.0, and it might pay off to share the work effort ! MMF on S60 3.0 is now possible, since Nokia has released the APIs about a month ago. However, the ogg ringing-tone will not be possible due to the security stuff, but otherwise same old functionality should be available.
