e61 firmware upgrade question?

7 replies · 5,358 views · Started 15 August 2006

Well in talking to a friend today, some of the older e61s wont be able to be "flashed" without a real nokia flash box... newer ones will. Mine's one of the older ones. My "Product Code" found on the sticker under my IMEI is 5247xx - if yours is 53xxxx or newer, appearently it can be done with a simple application and using your usb cable to your phone. I have the app, but I cannot get it to work with my phone. If anybody's got a newer product code, and newer hardware code than 5040, let me know, I'll send you the app and you can try it out.

***not responsible for damaged phones if this doesn't work.

youre not looking at the serial number/imei number, youre looking at the 6 digit code right below that... usually 52xxxx or 53xxxx.

that's the product code.

Thanks for the link desaubin. It seems like they don't seem have the latest firmware on the site (2.618.06.05) that has been mentioned elsewhere...

It's hard to tell what these are since *#0000# doesn't give that front (ie 1.0,1.1...) version number. Does anyone know what the story is?

Radi0chik, I would love to get my hands on your firmware... how can we do so?

"There is no new firmware upgrade currently available....what the service centers have is a maintenance patch....which addresses some stability issues etc. The first full fledged firmware upgrade is due out in November....I had the maintenance patch applied at a service center yesterday. As a result of it, I was able to use the new client for Seven always on mail....prior to this I had experienced the problem that others on the forum had...in that the client seemed unable to utilise a GPRS access point.

The patch also seemed to 'beef up' the security certificates....which was a double edged sword as some of the themes I had downloaded, no longer work & they also made it impossible to perform a phone restore, which meant several hours of fiddling....The tech told me not to get too tied up by the firmware numbers, as they can refer to various global markets so it isn't as easy as thinking 2.00.99 (etc) is a later firmware than 1.09.89. FYI I believe he said the patch incl @ 19 dll files. BTW after the patch was applied the firmware still showed the same version and date (even though it was now a june build as opposed to the april release build"
