Settings > connection > wireless lan > show avaialabilty set to never
As to your other problem I dont know the answer to that one, do you have a wep key for the wireless lan ?
Hi, and thankyou for your reply, yes i do have the "wep" key and have tried that but no joy, still not sure what im suppossed to be doing, is there a manual on how to set up "wlan" ?
And also i managed to set the search wlan to never, and thankyou for that.

I dont really use wep with my router, I have the mac filtering on for security, and all other hotspots I use are free and dont have wep, so I couldnt really help you further with this, there are others here that can I know...so you may have to wait untill they see your message.
You could send a PM to Rafe (mod here and very helpfull) and he may be able to point you in the right direction, or to somebody with more experience in this.
I can help with this....
This is down to another of Nokias fine bugs included with every N80 handset.
I use a WEP encrypted wifi router for my N80... By default, when your N80 searches for the wifi, it will ask you for the key. Entering my key in here NEVER worked... I dont know why, but even at freinds houses who I know the WEP key to, it doesnt work.
What you must do is save the wifi point as an Access Point in your phone, along with the key.
To do this: (May look confusing, but follow it with your handset and you should find it all)
Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points > OPTIONS > New access point >
Use default settings >
Now enter these settings in the menu >
Connection Name : Home
Data Bearer : Wifi
Access Point Name : Search for new wifi, and select it when it shows up.
Wlan Netw. Mode: Infrastructure
Wlan Security mode : WEP
Now press select on the item below > Wlan security settings.
In here >
Wep key in use: #1
Auth Type : Open
Wep key settings > Enter your key here, make sure its correct eg Small/big letters
BACK >
BACK >
Now its saved. Now when you goto web browser, and it lists all connections, if you are in range, HOME should be listed amongst them. Do NOT go to "Search for wifi"
Hope this fixed your problem!!
Oh and if that doesnt work, speak to whoever setup the Wifi router / xbox, and have them change the wep key to something else.
I have had certain wep keys just not work AT ALL... this is a pain, because if there are several comps using it, they all have to be changed!
Hi and you certainly no your stuff, well the bad news its still not working!! ive tried all of the above and have even tried connecting via "opera mini" but still no joy, is there anything else i can try, as not quite sure on how to change settings in router, ie the WEP Keys etc..strange because the nokia is finding my wireless network but not connecting still, could it be something to do with "sharing" in router settings"? ive even tried to disable the personal firewall through McAfee security !
Any other ideas , but understand if you have run out of any, again many thanx for your help and glad you got yours going all ok, realy like this phone as has lots of features, i did have an nokia n71 but got fed up with the marks that the keypad leaves on the internal screen.
Also have you got any latest sat nav running ok on the n80 as ive heard that theres loads of bugs within the latest route 66 mobile 7, ie people are having to get hold of the original uk map for it to work or update their firmware in the n80, most annoying as i love gps sat nav, suppose will have to wait for tomtom to get their act together and make one for symbian series 3rd edition, sorry to go on and again Thankyou.

Problem with sat nav and the N80 at the moment is that there is a problem with the latest 3.0617 firmware and the bluetooth, Nokia are aware of this and are working on a fix, so unless this is done, or unless you have the old 3.0614 firmware then sat nav at the moment is no use.
What firmware do you have, if its old version it may have something to do with your network *#0000# to find out.
Hi and thankyou for your reply, yes i do have the latest firmware 3.0617 and is it worth downgrading to the earlier firmware? also do you no if the older version of firmware is ok with route 66 mobile 7 ? as have still heard nokia are blaming route 66 and route 66 is blaming nokias firmware etc, so what is the truth ? do you have route 66 mobile 7 working ok?
And hope you are happy with your n80, i like it even with the downsides of it at the moment, but size is good, screen res, and applications etc.
Regards from Brian
is it worth downgrading to the earlier firmware
AFAIK downgrading firmware isn't possible
It is definitely a firmware issue as all current GPS software publishers (Wayfinder, Nav4All, Route66, etc) are warning that the N80 isn't compatible because of a firmware issue relating to GPS receiver dropouts. Expect TomTom to advise the same on release of their mobile GPS software for Symbian 3rd edition.
I've got the older (614) firmware and have run Nav4All and Wayfinder without the dropout issue. Haven't tried Route66 for obvious reasons (no trial version, high cost, slim chance of refund).
Best bet is to hold off on GPS until the new firmware is out, which shouldn't be too long (rumour suggests a release in September but that's not confirmed as yet). It looks as though it might be a major version change (to v4.nnn etc) so may take some time to test 🙄 and release.
HTH
Hi and thankyou for your advice,so do you think i should just wait for the new firmware? and also have you heard any rumours that tomtom are making a new tomtom mobile for symbian 3rd series? that would be awesome as i miss that so much, also think it beats any other gps sat nav, i want to keep the n80 as realy like it, so will just have to wait for update firmware and sat nav etc for it, again many thanx ,
Regards from brian
Speak to whoever set up your router, it might have Mac blocking enabled, which will only allow certain devices to connect. Try using a freinds laptop and see if it will connect to your WiFi point?
Re the SatNav... I am using Wayfinder Navigator 6, theres a free 5 day trial on there website, and its quality.
Works fine with my N80 over bluetooth to a £25 Generic 'GPS BLUETOOTH' from ebay. The difference with Wayfinder is, it connects to there server to download maps... at first this scared me, as i thought thats going to use loads of bandwidth and cost loads....
But it uses only a few kb... and it caches where you have been aswell, to prevent unnessecarry downloading... Give it a try, i think its great!!

Hi Brian,
i have been trying to get my n80 to link thru to my wanadoo livebox for about a month, wanadoo dont know how nor do orange, both a waste of space, if you get this sorted can you let me know how you managed it. think my problem is i have forgotten the passwword to access the configurtation of my livebox, i know i can do a hard reset on the live box so i can get into the conffigs page, but as i have 3 laptops and a desktop all working fine on wifi in my house, i'm a bit reluctant to do that in case a balls everything up....
cheers
Dean
Hi and thanx for your reply, the password you need is a default one, ie go to your programmes menu on p-c laptop, select wanadoo config, and open that, when asking for your password it should be admin ( user name ) and password admin both the same, yes a real pain but im connecting now to the internet via n80 but just have to keep entering the blooming WEP KEY Every time, im still awaiting other feedback from other users and will let you no, also doing a google search on WANADOO AND N80 , Let me no if you get any joy dean,
Regards from Brian
Also when entering your WEP KEY on the n80 before you press ok after you have entered it, press the button on back of wanadoo router and make sure its the button no 1 ie pairing one, once you have pressed this go back and select ok on the n80 after you have entered the WEP KEY, i changed my settings within the router for pairing mode to 60 mins !!!! but anyway im still searching forums etc..
cheers

thanks for the imput Brian, like a fool i changed the username and password when i installed the livebox, i have tried admin/admin since but no joy, and now i can't remember the username/password, i would have written it down and put it in a 'safe place'!! will have another hunt over the weekend and hopefully track it down or do the dreaded hard reset. thinking about it thou, did you need to go into the livebox config setting, i already have the wep code also do you have to press 1 on the livebox each time you connect or just the once to pair up??
cheers again mate, sure we will get there in the end
Dean
I only had to pair the phone once to the livebox, but still having to enter the WEP KEY In the n80, sure i will get there and will let you no, bit of a pain that you lost your passwords etc, can you not ring wanadoo and ask them for it, after giving your address details they should be able to help, not sure if you should do a hard fix as you may lose all your settings, especially if you have 3 p-c s etc, could be a pain to set em all up again, and a 360 if you have one, let us no how you get on..
Brian
Hi guys,
I've managed to set my N80 up through my Livebox with very few problems. I did initially get some "Gateway cannot be found" messages but these seemed to resolve on their own.
I had to set up an "access point" to get started..
Connection name = Home
Data Bearer = Wireless LAN
WLAN netw. name = Wanadoo
Network Status = Public
WLAN netw. mode = Infrastructure
WLAN security mode = WEP
I entered the WEP as published on the sticker on the base of the Livebox
I also use the pairing (No.1) button when initially setting this up.
I then had to go to web services setting and set my access point to User Defined, selecting the Access Point I named Home as the point of entry. If I use "Always Ask" my Access Point isn't listed - I believe this is a firmware issue?
When I'm out and about I have to go back in to web services setting to set the Access Point to GPRS.
Hope this helps?
😊

Hi Brian,
well done mate, you could knock me up an idiots guide, step by step as to how you did. That would be really useful, if you need any games or applications for your n80 check out
http://www.series60v3.com/index.php?categoryid=8&p13_sectionid=3
they are all free and 95% of the games work perfectly on the n80
cheers
