N80 miniSD Card Speed Tests

Hi,

I thought maybe my card was too slow, so I tested it for speed with HD Tach 3.0. Freeware at /www.simplisoftware.com.

The results are in!
Kingston 1 GB miniSD Card - SDM/1GB

Tested with SanDisk ImageMage 6 in 1 card reader:
Random Access: 3.1 msec
Average Read: 6.1 MByte/sec

Tested with N80 phone in File Transfer Mode with USB 2.0 interface:
Random Access: 5.2 msec
Average Read: 0.8 MByte/sec

That's pretty slow with the phone. What's your experience?

Thanks!

The result is expected. It goes to a number of layer more e.g. PC suite layer, etc.

However, I don't think the delay is that significant with USB 2.0 interface. All my 400mb data is transferred within a few minutes. Go to a coffee maker, and when you're back, it's done.

I tested this myself and found that access from the phone using direct mode is 3 times slower than using a card reader. It is 16 times slower when using PC suite mode.

That is a very substantial time difference especially when you are trying to transfer 1 GB of songs!

The performance should be the same as a card reader in direct mode, but it is three times slower.

Well I just ordered a 1Gb SanDisk Ultra II for 23. Was gonna get a 2Gb but I doubt I'd fill it anyway and the 1Gb cards probably work better anyway.

2GB is fine.
