Internet Connection Sharing - Ad Hoc?

7 replies · 3,184 views · Started 18 August 2006

Hi all,

Has anyone successfully set up ICS with their N80 over an ad hoc wifi network?

Still haven't got a wifi router at home, but have a usb wifi stick. Would also be useful at work.

My attempts so far:

Set up wireless ad-hoc network on laptop with 192.168.1.1 IP. Set LAN connection to use ICS. Set N80 to use ad-hoc network, IP of 192.168.1.2, gateway 192.168.1.1. Can't seem to connect N80 to ad-hoc network and laptop wifi says disconnected, but has that little blue circle around the symbol when you show networks.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Can you clarify which way you are trying to go? Are you wanting to use teh N80 to connect to the net and sharethis with teh laptop or the laptop to teh net and use this connection on the phone?

Apologies if that wasn't clear.

I have a laptop connected to my office network/internet via its LAN card. I wish to access the internet from my N80 through the laptop's wifi connection.

You want IP Pass through, I think. Seem that with N80 only by USB cable. Search for the first statement, because is talked on forum.

I think there have been several attempts, none successful.

I thing is correct, none successful...

You might like to try setting up your PC with a proxy server rather than using ICS, from what I remeber ICS isn't exactly a standard technology. Might be worth a shot.
