Yesterday i haggled with OrangeUK to get 2 of these phones on upgrade on my contract and i am now thinking i have made a very bad choice.
I was suckered in by:
-The 3.2mp camera, which seems it is not really that good
-The wifi, which again seems to be a lot of trouble
-The slider, which again seems to be a lot of trouble
-The 8 days standby seemed ok....but now it looks like i'll be lucky to get 2 days
-The size... well that cant be deceiving
-The radio... does this work ok?
-The mp3 player but this seems more trouble than its worth, what
and is the messaging really that bad?
I am currently using an I-Mate Kjam and my girlfirend has got a K750i.... and im thinking i should maybe go for the k800i instead.
I was after a smaller phone to replace my K-jam as it seems fairly unreliable and the camera is a bit poo.
My main worry is the battery life as i spend a lot of weekends away from a power point so if the phone dies its dead for a while.
Can anyone convince me that the phone is ok...or make me think i should take advantage of the 7day returns!
thanks
Well, I've had mine a week and am pleased.
The battery life is pretty bad. I've had to charge it every night, but then I have been playing with it all day, every day. I'd be a little nervous not charging it for a whole weekend, unless you don't use it much and it's just in standby mode for the majority of the time.
The camera is a little poor, but I find it much better than my last camera phone.
Haven't had any issues with the slider, wifi, or mp3 player.
I've not used the k800i, so can't really compare...... but if you're not going to use the wifi and are worried about the battery, maybe you shoudl return it. Up to you.
Hope that helps!

I switched from a K-Jam to an N80 when they first came out (got it SIM free).
Definitely worth it IMHO.
Whilst any new tech has it's issues, there's no comparison between the 2. N80 has better construction, form factor, support (have you ever tried to contact iMate 🙄 ), better accessories and the software range is growing daily. No need to restart the phone on a daily basis and battery life between the two is comparable.
Since I bought my N80, I've sold my k-jam and MP3 player on eBay and am going to put my TomTom up for auction as soon as I get Wayfinder.
It'll be a cold day in hell before I go back to WM5 as the OS for a phone..
Bear in mind that most posts on forums like this are from people looking to stretch their device's functionality or solve problems. You tend not to get posts from people saying "Well my N80 runs fine". You only have to search on forums like those at the XDA Developer site to get an idea of how many people have had problems with their K-Jams...
I think the comments/moans are excessive. The more I use it the more I love it.
The battery could be better but I get two days use out of it between charges (by "use" I mean calls, texts, GPRS, bluetooth sync, and the odd bit of WiFi).
The camera is good. OK it could be better but it's still better than a lot of other camera phones and is good enough to take everyday pics. If you want A4 blowups, take a proper SLR.
The mp3 player is as good as I want, and now I can rip tracks with full tag info (great article on this site) the library is sorted and I can find every album/track/artist I want.
WiFi works fine. And the list of programs is now getting good. My essentials include FreeNews, HandyWeather, HandySafe, Profimail, SkyForce, Shozu, Opera Mini, Agilemessenger, ViewRanger, Guitar Chords "mapper" and recently JabpLite - a personal finance tracker with QIF support.
More excitingly, there is a new program just around the corner that will allow true webmail access (Yahoo) and not just POP3 implementations of it.
I love this phone.
I'm going to echo the previous poster.
Had my N80 a week and so far the good outweighs the bad tenfold. Granted, this is my first smartphone (had an old samsung for four years up until now) so I may just be blind to the bad stuff at the moment.
Yes the battery life is probably poor (I'm playing with it constantly and doing a lot of wifi/3g comms and heavy emulation stuff on it) and the build quality probably isn't as good as it could be. I guess the slider catch is a little weak.
And yeah, the camera isn't the best, but if I'm doing any proper photography I'll be using my Casio Exilim.
And I suppose that Symbian does hang a bit too often (though I've only had to do a full battery-removal reset once), but that's probably because I'm running a lot of heavy Java stuff, as well as C2Doom and ScummVM, both of which are pretty intensive.
And onle last gripe would be the lack of software for 3rd edition. I've seen so many cool Symbian games and gone to download them only to realise that 3rd edition isn't supported (argh!!).
BUT overall, it's a great little phone that does everything I want a phone to be able to do, and it does it well. All the extra stuff is just bonus really, and if it doesn't work 100% then what the hell...
thank you....
I have had a play with the phone and its seems pretty good...
Its gonna take some get used not having a keyboard and touchscreen but i find a touch screen more trouble than its worth sometimes.
Camera seems grand...well... better than k-jam anyhoo...
Wifi was a dodle to setup...the only ball ache was entering the 128bit key...but other than that fine....
...didnt click that you could install scummvm on it... but now is seems obvious...as i used to have that on my p800....
im sure i'll have more questions in the future but at the moment i am pretty happy....
Heya All,
I agree with Fats the main problem I have with the phone (except been locked to Three network 🙄 ) is that its 3rd edition Symbian OS and doesnt run as many programs as some other phones might. Also some java games play in the top left corner of the screen which is also annoying :con?
The phone itself is power hungry and needs recharging alot. But this is reasonable considering that it has a lot of features and some of them are running pretty constantly. I think the phone is best when its just used as a daily device, it needs to be recharged daily. Its not a phone I would hapilly take camping. Its an Office/business phone not an outdoor pursuits phone 😊
I havent had my phone long and to me the lack of backward compatability with other symbian OS is the main problem I have. Its almost ridiculous to think that Symbian released a new OS that cant use its older OS software... that is the most worrying thing.
I dont think you made a bad choice I just think give it time and use it and get to know it, everything has some faults but we all know that nothing is perfect 😊

(edited to add the following) Mine also Squeeks when I play MP3s sometimes, its usually when the MP3s have finished playing or I have the audio cable plugged up and there is no MP3s playing. I havent heard of anyone else having this problem and its not something I am to bothered about.
At first i didnt like the phone so much but now i tottaly love it, now that i use it alot more with the 1gb memory card.
I like having a OK camera with me all the time, makes me take alot more pictures that is allways nice to have.
The camera is not great but i rember its not many years since i had the SE t68i with camera and i cud barly see who was in the pictures so im happy with the n80.
I use the wifi alot, i often need to check the nett at late hours so its alot easyer just reach for the cellphone and do a quike search than go up and to the pc.
Allso its nice like when you are on trips , you can often find hot spots to use.
The memory problem suck but thats often on heavy commersial sites, and i dont visit them so much. If you cant get into the news page they often got a wap/pda page, go to that side it has no pictures.
I dont know what is trouble with the slider but yeah it feels poor 😞
I never had got battery life on any of my phones but the n80 didnt last for 24 hours. I changed the screen light a bit down and the screen saver to 5sek and now it lasts about two days. Thats ok for me i can charge it in the car or at night.
The size, its a bit big, takes up a pocked :S. But this is 06 and thats how it is.
The radio works nice her, i often use it when i walk the dog.
I usslay dont lisent to mp3 players, but i got the bmw business headunit on my car and the shit dosent take mp3 cd`s and a new bmw head unit is like 1000$ so i inserted a AUX cable and plugged my phone up like an mp3 player and it works over avrage. I now got around 250 songs on the phone and since i allways got it with me its nice to just plug it in and i can throw the 100`s of cd`s with 10 songs on
I allso use the mp3 player to plugg to my home stero some times.
