Upgraded FW 3.0618 to 4.0623.0.41 but still can't select GSM ONLY in Network Mode?

Hi all,

I have successfully flashed my N80 FW to v4.0623.0.41.
(I was previously on the 3.0618 3UK Branded firmware)

However in the menu Settings->Network->Network-Mode
I still only have 2 options :- Dual Mode and UMTS (3G?)
I thought generic FW offered a 3rd option, GSM ONLY

Can someone check this setting on their N80 please?

Cheers,
Dez

What you should have done was flash to a generic v3..................... first then flash the new one. The new firmware contains a 3 variant which automatically detects during flashing so its added the 3 variant of V4 to you. If you look throught the files contained within them is a specific 3 and Voda config. Not sure what you can do now.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, as I was on the 3.0618 3-Variant, there was no Generic V3 Firmware I could Flash as they are all lower version (3.0617).

I will look at the V4 variant files and see if I can do anything with them.

It's not a major deal for me, as I don't live in a 3G area but would have preferred the Generic Network Mode options.

Thanks!.

I used the Euro 1 Black variant, this includes all features including the GSM only option

Remove SIM, Reflash with V01 PPM, factory reset with *#7370#, check menu options after it reboots and before you put a SIM in.

I believe phone detects new sim, when I put my Vodafone IE SIM in the phone it automatically added in correct access points, perhaps with a 3 SIM it also adds in restrictions?

GENIUS! A MILLION THANKS!

Formatting the phone and booting up without a SIM card has re-enabled the GSM option in Settings->Network Mode->GSM ONLY

Thanks again!

Glad it worked, if I visit the Borders I'll be looking for a pint 😊

Yeah but what happens when you boot up with your 3 sim? Does the option go again? Or are you using another network now?

i am on T-Mobile these days so cannot test a 3 sim card here. However i think its most likely that flashing with the generic FW followed by formatting the user memory area with *#7370# will permanently remove all 3 network customisations...

Something odd is happening to my phone:

The flash to v4 was smooth and successful. I noticed that the default network setting after flashing was Dual Mode. However, when selecting the GSM only option, my phone was unable to locate the network and it gave me the message "Unable to register SIM". What's odd is that I previously had GSM only selected and never had problems until flashing to v4 from v3.0617.0.6. Can anyone please shed some light? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I flashed from V3.0618 (3UK) to V4 (Generic) and initially the GSM only option was not shown.
After formatting the N80 with *#7370# the option was available to me and also works fine.

I suggest you backup your phone - contacts, calendar, etc., then format your N80...

I posted a notice on the v4 version some weeks ago. Some users told me that I was lying... Now, the truth has unravel for itself.

Enjoy the new firmware... I'm at v4.0628.0.1 now though 😊 A few steps faster..

Please don't post the same message to multiple threads...

... and as for the v4.0628.0.1 FW, where did you get it? Can you upload it to Fileshare or somewhere so we can ALL try it out. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, I was able to solve the problem without formatting the phone!

Sadly, I ended up having to format the phone shortly afterwards, since my phone would not sync via iSync (Mac OSX 10.4.7) under the new firmware. After formatting the problem was gone and I have a fully operational flashed N80! 😃
