Hi
Just wanted to add my thoughts about reception on my N80.
I have just been on Holiday in Somerset (SW England). Whilst there the others on Holiday with me had a Sony Ericcson W810i (O2), Sony Ericsson Z600 (O2), Motorola Razor 3Vi(O2) and an old Vodaphone of unknown type. All the other phones gained reception where I could not.
If any body from Nokia is reading these forums can they tell me why the reception is so bad and is there any plans to address this problem.

so 3 were on 02 and 1 on vodafone? what network was the N80 on?
HI
Sorry my Nokia is on O2 as well.

I've heard reports that the new v4 firmware improves the signal strength. In the thread one guy says his N80 is now on par with his 6230i. This is good news as my old 6230i had very good signal
I'm not sure I'd say that I have poor reception, but I have a flaky reception that comes and goes quite a lot. Also, my N80 is too late in abandoning the 3G network when it's obvious that it won't work. I miss calls completely because the phone is trying on the 3G network although meantime the GSM network has excellent reception. Use that then, N80!
I will try and get the latest firmware and see what happens.
As for the 3G signal this seems to be available i.e. 3g symbol appears but no signal strength, as I have no idea as to what 3g is and how to use it it is a complete mystery to me what this means.
I know that it is to do with greater download speeds and bandwidth but cannot see what is happening when the 3g symbol appears but there is no signal strength.
Any 'idiots' guide to this would be useful.
Thanks
Neil
if you dont use 3G goto tools/settings/network and change network mode to GSM. this will force the phone to stay in one mode and not try to keep changing between the 2.
my 3G signal is also weaker than the GSM and since i rarely use 3G i have switched it off
Yeah i agree, defs turn 3G off if ur not going to use it, saves battery life too!
I use 3G all the time for data transfers when I'm not at home. Disabling (or enabling) 3G requires a total restart of the phone, so you don't want to switch twice every day, thank you. Nokia needs to sort this out so 3G only is used when reception is really good enough!
o2's 3G rollout is running behind as well - they recently warned Ofcom that they won't meet their 80% coverage target by 31 Dec 2007
I also had reception problems on my N80 (also on O2) last week. Someone sat next to me with their Sony W700i (on O2) had enough receptio to make/recieve calls/texts while the N80 was dead. I even tried turning off 3G but it made no difference at all!!!
Since I upgraded to the latest firmware I have noticed that the N80 is quicker to drop a poor 3G connection - something of an improvement I think.
Thanks for your many responses I am goint to get the latest upgrade and see if that makes a difference.
