Hi all,
First of all, I'm glad I ran into this forum. Lots of helpful information! Now about my question, I want to buy an un-locked N80 phone to use in the US. Has anybody bought one yet? I've seen some offerings in ebay but I feel a bit uneasy about buying it there. Does anyone know of a reliable online shop where I can get it? Also, I am a bit worried about the lack of support that I might get since no operator is offering it yet.
Thanks,
Luis
I'm in Houston and I almost bought my n80 in Ebay; but found a better deal. There's places around Houston Asian district that import cell phones and unlock them.
I'm sure if you're in a major city that you'll have the same in your area. Here's the catch: they charge more than Ebay. Also; I've heard that there's no warranty from Nokia if you buy it here in the states (but the I bought mine from said that if there's a problem within a year I could ship it to Nokia Asia and they'll warranty it).
SO; this dude told me if I opened a new Tmobile account he'd give me a big discount (phone was like $600 and I paid $350 with a new Tmobile 2 year agreement)....phone works great.
I'm in Florida. A friend bought one for me in Saudia Arabia and brought it here (ca. US$650). It works fine on Cingular except I need to update the firmware. Nokia USA won't touch it.
Cool, thanks for the replies.
The only problem about these options is that if we run into issues when upgrading the firmware we wouldn't be able to take it to any Nokia Center here.
I looked around and there are some stores that seem to sell the N80 in the US:
Like California Computer Center (589 USD)
http://www.californiacomputer.com/Shop/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CaliforniaComputer&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=N80&cookie%5Ftest=1
TigerDirect.Com (639 USD)
CellCrew (574 USD).
However, that confuses me, because if Nokia is not selling the phone here yet, these products are probably imported and with no warranty in the USA.. Does anybody know about it?
Thanks,
Luis
I bet the phones are imported and Nokia won't honor the warranty in the US. US stores are required to show you the warranty before you buy. Ask.
Futuretronics (TEL 407-248-9918) at the Mall at Millenia in Orlando sells the N80 for $999 (ouch). You could call them up as ask. Of course that doesn't mean the eBay shop will have the same warranty.
TigerDirect is fairly mainstream. They should be able to tell you what's up too.
Currently, the only reliable place in the US the Nokia N80 can be bought is the Nokia Flagship store in Chicago (http://www.nokiausa.com/about/store/chicago/1,8737,,00.html). The phone goes for $599. If you are going to be in Chicago anytime soon you can call up the store and have them reserve a phone for you. There were only a very limited amount of the N80s sold, right when the store opened this summer. They have been on backorder for a while, but I got a call from the store last week that they got a new shipment. To bad I am not in Chicago right now. I got told that shipments are expected to come in more frequently now and that the backorder is going be a thing of the past. At the same time everybody that does not live in Chicago will have to wait until the phone is made available on the Nokia website. In June I was told this is going to happen soon Well I am still waiting Anybody with more promising news please post your response Buying the phone through Cingular is my preference while expecting a significant discount.
This is great to know. Although I am not in Chicago my company has office locations in there, so I can probably request a coworker to buy it for me. Or maybe I can arrange a business trip 😊
I will look into that and I'll post more information if I find out something new.

Since today 24. Aug. 06 the Nokia N80 is available through the NokiaUSA website. And even better its in stock! The question still remains when can we buy it from Cingular?
