Hey all. Updated my firmware from 2.??? to 5.0609.2.0.1 on the Nokia website last nite. All worked grand with no problems but after reading through a few post on her they seem to imply that the fone will be de-branded. It never happened with me!!! I have noticed a few changes but nothing to write home about.
any advice would be great.
Many thanks, Jezzwa
Does the Firmware from the Nokia site remove Brancding?
The official firmwares from the Nokia site will NOT remove the branding of your phone. You will only get the latest branded firmware when updating.
No way!
Using the Nokia software will actually rebrand the phone if it's been de-branded,
Carl,
My N70 is Orange Pay Monthly. I updated via the Nokia site (to v5.xxx) and it now offers the option to turn off the stupid Orange sidebar.
Yeah- doesn't debrand but it restored alot of deleted options my provider (3 Australia) decided I didn't need like the ACTIVE STANDBY option so it was still worth it 😊
I went from a lovely de-branded Orange Nokia N70 to a re-branded Orange Nokia N70... thank god it gives you the option to turn the Orange homescreen off otherwise I would have smashed the damn thing up with a hammer. Its still bloody annoying that you have to turn the homescreen off every time you turn the phone on...
Dont turn it off then:tongue: :icon14:
it will not debrans the phone i flashed my N70 witch is vodafone branded and just got the updates for the firmware
ohh yeah i am in austealia to if that helps
My N70 was originally was vodafone branded. It was debranded to 5.0606... nokia generic fw.
After the phone was upgraded using the Nokia software I ended up with Nokia generic 5.0616.2.0.3 fw.
This means that once a phone is de-branded Nokia software will upgraded with another de-branded firmware.
No it doesnt.
Mine was Orange, was then debranded, was then upgraded via the Nokia update service and was updated to newer software with the damn Orange branding.
It may well be that the rebranding is operator specific, but this still means that some are being returned to their pre debranding state.
Happy to report it doesn't al of a sudden "brand" a generic phone either. 😎
I would actually be well pissed off if my phone, after the update, all of a sudden showed traces of some provider's software and logos... It might still happen though! (fingers crossed for this to happen to someone else 😊 )
My theory: I don't know how it works, but it seems to me it depends on how "deep" the de-branding was done. Not sure if there are different levels, but somehow some phones seem to remember they belonged to Orange in a past life, while others suffer complete amnesia and are happy just being Nokia. Does anyone have any thoughts on this theory?
