Hello! I'm a total newbie when it comes to cell phones, and I am hoping to learn a great deal from you all! I am from the US on t-mobile coverage and just recently bought an unlocked gsm nokia e70. My question in regards to the phone is that on my old phone I had an instant messenger client preinstalled that allowed me to use aim and other clients, but since I bought an unlocked phone I did not get one this time. I have tried to install some IMing programs such as IM+ and Agilemessenger, but I have not had much luck. I don't know if I am unable to use them because I am in the US? Do you have suggestions? You're help would greatly be appreciated.

Andrew

II imagine M+ and Agile Messenger should work in the US, too, as long as you use the T-Mobile Interner access point (and not WAP).

When you use those IMing programs does it count as a phone call the entire time you use the application or is the T-mobile internet count as something else. Also, do you already have to have a T-mobile internet plan to use that feature? Thanks.

Andrew

It counts as data charges (how much that is, depends on the tariffs of your operator; fixed per month, fixed up to a certain limit and then something per megabyte transferred, purely by per megabyte transferred, whatever).

Thanks for all the help. I actually got agilemessenger to work through my friends wireless router, but when I tried to connect to my house router it did not work (even though I can connect to house wireless internet to surf the web) . Would anyone know why I can do one but not the other? Do I need a certain router?

got an E70 on tmobile too. had a sidekick2 before it so i was looking for an alternative to IMing. what i did is get the unlimited any message plan for $14.99 and i can connect to my yahoo and AIM via SMS. just visit their site to get all the commands. only thing i miss is the "real-time" view of who's online. to do this on SMS i have to send a message to yahoo to give me a list of who's online. no biggie, glad i got rid of my sidekick. as far as being within a wifi network, then i use agile.

Ooo you did too. Thats really cool. I tried looking on their site, but I couldn't find it. 😛 Could you give me the link. hehe

i don't know how to set up AIM since i use iChat for OS X. there's an option on iChat that will log me in on my cell whenever i'm idle or offline on my mac. not sure if this is available for AIM

ooh crap i thought you meant aim not yahoo messenger. i dont really use that cause everyone i know uses aim, at least where i am from.
