Questions about basics

I am new from a treo 600 and there are a few limitations that I am wondering whether I can fix. The first is the start-up screen. Can I change the default programs on the overview screen? The second question is the SMS. Can I find a third party software or other way to allow threads for SMS messages. Also, is there a way to see the message while you are replying to it? It also seems that the phone, organizer integration is not great (many clicks to get things done and does not recognize multiple version of same number), anyone else has some suggestions/thoughts?

Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Standby Mode -> Active Standby apps

You can also change the applications affected to the left and right soft key there too. Keep in mind though that the application affected to the left soft key will take a while to start since the phone will wait to see if you're pressing the key lock key before actually launching the application.

Not yet and i don't remember having seen such an app for previous S60 phones so there might never be such an application (but you never know).

I don't really understand what you're trying to say here. If you're talking about the Calendar application then, yes, it's a toy application, only good enough to keep track of your next dentist appointment and that's about it. There are third party calendar applications though. AquaCalendar has already been released for S60 3rd edition phone. Tried it, hated it but many people like it. Papyrus is another third party calendar app that i love but it's not yet available for 3rd edition devices (it will be soon, it's in closed beta at the moment).

Have a lot of programs to work with Messages - find them on Store of AAS;

To that, if I understand well, the answer is No.

Is a metter of taste. I like a lot the calendar. All my private / professional life, is controled by that - is, personal opinion, better than other organizer, and is always with me.
But like "elp" said, You can try others, when they exist for S60 v3.

Man! I feel for you! I've been looking high and low for the same kind of app when I let my Treo600 on to greener pastures.
Now, we have to take into consideration cultural differences here, Northern and Central Europe its all SMS, Asia is all IM and the US is all BerryThumb from the e-mailing (nevermind the other continents and major regions, there just a bunch of commodities waiting to get "developed"😉 but despite all this, one - if not t h e greatest feature a l l the smartphone developers (bar Palm) missed out on was threaded SMS... Way cool!
I'd pay PREMIUM for that to be in the firmware of E61^3... (I've always been of the opinion that I shouldn't have to pay extra to get basic smartphone functionality like PIM (Nokia), uptime (SE) or phone, as in smarPHONE!!! (Palm))

So bestoflucktoya and I assume that our good mates at AAS will let the general public know if and when such an app is made available.
