help with unlocking - got my code, it wont work!

8 replies · 5,482 views · Started 23 August 2006

Hi,

I am having some fun unlocking my N80, so I am hoping someone here can help!

I am on contract in the UK, I have the unlocking code from Vodafone (which they gave me for free!) and have entered it and it stated 'sim restriction off' which I assumed meant I was unlocked.

However... on putting in either of my Vodafone Spain PAYG SIMs, the phone then requests a 'codigo de blokque' which I assume means blocking code 😊

Nothing I seem to enter works and I dont want to enter it more than 10 times as I read this then locks either the sim or the phone.

I have tried 12345 and the PUK but they do not work.

I have tried to re-enter the unlocking code, but the phone will only accept numbers at that point and not alpha-numerics which the code is.

Anyone have a clue? Speaking to Vodafone Spain is driving me mad due to the language barrier!

Thanks!

if your phone is on a contract in the uk, and the code they gave is ONLY FOR A UK VODAFONE SIM,

YOUR SPAIN SIM, I BELIEVE WILL NOT WORK,
try a uk vodaphone sim

that will work

ok
let me know how u got on

try uk sim in it, is it a uk handset?

Hi,

Well, my UK vodafone contract SIM works in it, but then again, that obvisouly always did!

I dont have a UK PAYG SIM with me, I NEED to get this working on the Spanish SIM for cost reasons.

I am completely confused, I thought an unlocked phone would work with any SIM in it, I didnt think that there were different levels of unlocking down to country level.

This just doesnt make sense and Vodafone are proving completely useless on the matter!

Cheers.

call voda, tell them ur fone is broken (keeps rebooting etc), get a replacement and request new unlock code!

solved!

thanks guys for all your input.

The 'codigo de bloque' is the fone locking code which is a 5 digit pin (default 12345) but I had reset mine to something different months ago when I got the phone.

My N80 was set to request this locking code when the SIM was changed. As soon as I turned this off by entering the code, it worked!

SO... an unlocked phone IS unlocked across the globe, not just in the country of origin 😊

I have it all working now and am emailing from my Spanish data SIM!

Thanks for all pointers anyway!

Chris.
