Our GPRS now has started charging us. Siggghhhhs.
Anyway, could you browse the internet using the 7650's web browser (or any other), using your 7650 modem? I have a lot of free minutes and I thought that it'll be a lot cheaper if I just make use of those.
What I mean is, could we browse by not using the GPRS?
not wap.
I have tried browsing using my 7650 as a modem to my notebook. What I want is browsing using my 7650 as a modem to my 7650 itslef.
Yes. You can use Webviewer over a regular dialup isp. (not sure of the settings though, but its simple)
Hopefully someone will drop by.
PS: This was also discussed erlier. There's a very comprehensive thread on this around here. Search for webviewer dialup
😃 😃
Ok got what you mean. Honestly, this is the first time I heard someone who wises to use their N7650 in this situation. However, personally, I don't think it's possible as Nokia never did design the 7650 to be used this way. Maybe I'm wrong though, any ideas anyone else ?
Well the only settin g you need are the username, passowrd and dialup number of your ISP. Create an access point and there you go!
Just wanted to let know, the search for above subject/thread took less than 30 sec

Are there Lions in Area 51? (just a thought) 😊
aye
this is what i do
i got a dial up account from btopenworld and set it up as an access point
tools > settings > connections > accesspoints
options > new access point
connection name - whatever u want - mines is BT
data bearer - GSM data ( i tried high speed gsm and gprs and they didnt connect)
dial up number - whatever the phone number is for the ISP
username - whatever the username is
prompt password - no
password - whatever your passwword is
authentication - normal
gateway IP - 0.0.0.0
data call type - isdn v.11
max data speed 14400
and thats it
if i try to set the connection settings higher i cant connect. this may vary from ISP to TSP, so go forth and tinker
the main reason i have this ISP is so that i can access my broadband inbox (its btopenworld) and send from it, coz BT wont let u send outgoing POP3 email unless u are dialled into their computers....blame email spammers for that
Well, actually, you gonna have to play with the setings, they are ISP dependant.I have two ISP accounts, one of the supports ISDN,one of them does not,max baud on both of them is 9600.So like i said, play with the setings, you will eventualy make it work 😊
Oh,i forgot, for a dial up towards your ISP,data bearer always should be GSM data.

from your post you want to use the 7650s modem to browse the net on your computer?
I used to do this on my 6210 and only done this once or twice with the 7650 since i got it.
I use ir since i dont have bt for my laptop, put them in range with ir on the phone on, let windows detect the modem then create a new DUN connection with your isps number username and password and select the 7650 via Irda as the modem. If you dont have the 7650 modem driver installed you may be able to get away with selecting 'standard IR modem on com #2' (or something to that effect. replace 2 with the actual port that it detects). Trying to connect without the modem driver installed and selecting the 'standard' modem can be a bit unreliable as i find that sometimes it connects and other times the device isnt found/port cannot be opened.
Using Orange (UK) and hscsd i can get connected at 28.8kbps, u have to increase the speed in the control panel tool u get when u install the modem driver. does anyoen remember when Bt anytime used to use the 0800 dialup number, and orange allowed free 0800 data access 😃 Those were the days lol
Hope that helps
I dont think he meant that. What he meant is that he wants to surf the net from his 7650 using other method then GPRS.

Yup yup. That's it.
A question that's been always buggin me:
Since accesing the net via GSM in my country is gonna be really really slow, (browsing web pages is gonna take me bloody ages) does the MSN messenger go slow by the speed of the connection? Or since it's connected speed doesn't matter? :-? (never encountred a speed problem with the MSN messenger)
Instant messaging does not need a fast connection. Even IRC doesnt so you will be ok with GSM Data!
Uhmm don't know, But, based on Muffy, I would conclude that teflon Sticks!
