Okay... Okay... N80 v4.

I know, I know.. You guys are fed up of this and this issue was talked before but it was on the last firmware of N80 (3.0617..).

My firmware:

V4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)

I flashed my firmware on my own and i was happy about it, i did it about 6 days ago. When i first flashed my phone it was really lightning fast and it run smoothly. I am a heavy txter meaning i send more than 200+ SMS a day so for 6 days i've sent about 1200 SMS. On my first few days sending sms takes about a sec when sending sms, im refering to the progress bar "sending text message". But now, it takes 8-10 secs for the progress bar to load. I know its not that long but its annoying, i thought it will be fixed in v4.

I just want to ask for those people who have v4 if they have the same problem or at least notice this issue in your new firmware. Or maybe im the only one who feel this problem and i have a defective phone. Other than that, i love the phone and its perfect for me.

have you tried either turning you log file off or reducing it to a day? if your sending this many texts and you log file which be default is set to 30 days will soon be a considerable size.

menu > log > options > settings > log duration > 1 day (or off if you don't need it)

Well, i know that. Its been set to 1 day.

Just a shot in the dark: have to tried to empty your inbox and to set "Save sent messages" to "No"?

(by the way, how do you physically manage to send 200 SMS/day? I'm impressed, that one SMS every 4 minutes for 14 hours per day! No worried about thumb injuries?).

Even cleaning up ur inbox and sent item wont do any good. Im thinking the messages are stacking up somewhere where it freezes when i send a message.

I send SMS whole day round till up to midnight. i've been txting since 1999 so no thumb injuries!

This has been a well known problem for all s60 v3 devices.
From reading through various post in different forums, I notice this happens to people who tends to send/receive a lot more sms than the average user.

The only solution I know of is to do a soft/hard reset of the phone. This is only a temporary solution because the problem comes back within a few weeks.
I suspect that there is an internal log of sms that is accumulating somewhere hidden inside of the file structure.

You might want to try using Y-Browser or SysExplorer to check all the directories inside the file structure and examine if there is any messaging log directory.

I flashed my N80 to V4.0523.0.41 (V01) last weekend and it's still lighning fast.

I have my LOG settings at 10 days.
I use my (SanDISK 2Gb) MiniSD card for messages.
I have set SAVE SENT MESSAGES to 100

I do NOT get the delay or lock up of menu's when sending SMS.

My only suggestion to you is to format the phone with *#7370# and see if this helps. WARNING: Formatting your phone deletes all contents & apps which are stored on the internal device memory. It does not delete anything from the MiniSD card.

Hope this helps.

You will definitly lose any APPS you installed yourself if you installed them to your N80 internal memory instead of the SD memory card.

It's questionable whether or not apps bundled by Nokia will be lost or not.
e.g. Virus Scanner, Adobe Acrobat, etc.

Hope this helps.

Are you a heavy texter?

thats what me mean, only heavy txters suffer the problem, i send around 700-800 every month and i can see it gradually gets slower til its taking 30secs+ to txt 😞

Yup.. Jaffa-cake said it.

I use the phone massively on sending message. Before i have 6600, but i didnt even have to reset my phone due to freezing while sending message. 6600 is not that fast like N80 but it doesnt freeze!

Nokia should sort this out because we cannot just sit around and format our phone every week.

i had a 6600 too and then a 6680 and neither of those suffered with this, so whoever it was that said it is an annoying bug in the s60 platform was wrong, its just an annoying bug on the n80

yes we know that 6600 and 6680 are not s60 3rd edition devices but new versions SHOULD work much better than the older one. They overlooked this feature and they should sort this out.

I know.. but someone posted that slow texting after a while was a problem with all s60 phones, but it isn't the case :frown:

for people who are having these slow problems, can i just ask what size and type memory card you are using in your phone, I noticed a lot of lag when upgrading my nokia 128mb card to a viking 1gb card, switching it back solved this problem. This has happened to me before on a older digital camera, worked fine with a 64mb card in it, when i stuck a 1gb card in it, it used to take ages to process the photo after taking it..

just a thought..

Im just using the memory card bundled in the phone when i bought it. Still problem persists.
