N93 Sat Nav

23 replies · 10,682 views · Started 28 August 2006

I am really completely an idiot on this. I've heard a lot of Sat Nav on mobiles and I would like to use this feature on my N93 or N70. But I prefer my N93 because the N70 is my wife's.
What exactly do I need to get this service? Please tell me from A-Z

Regards,
A

the present best deal on a system like this has to be navicore from mobilefun.co.uk

I wouldnt recommend Route66 since it intermittently connects to the GPS receiver

Yes Navicore is probably your best bet. You can oder this from their site. There is a review in the reviews section if you want to know more.

I bought Route 66 for my N93, and so far, I've found it to be the best sat-nav system I've ever used. Performance is spot on - the only problem I have with it is that the "light off" options don't really seem to work, so the battery drains on the phone pretty quick! 😊

Hi,

I have tom tom 6 running - its superb. I had tom tom 5 running on n90 but this is a lot better, i think mainly due to screen res and size. No bluetooth issues that n70 had and installation is as easy as to tom 5.

Hi all,
I am also running TT6 and looking forward to seeing if the new firmware update on the N93 will allow it to be used in landscape mode as currently it doesn't. Tom Tom is IMO easily the best Sat Nav solution available.

It's TomTom Navigator 6 on http://www.tomtom.com/ and it comes with a Bluetooth GPS.

Steve

Yeah great, but I was wanting to download a demo and test it, if it is good ill buy the full version, i was more looking for a demo download 😉

Would you buy a Sat Nav without trying it first?? Nope!

ok will do, thanks Steve.

What antennas are u guys running? i was just looking at the ones on ebay...

Err.... each of the sat-nav suites come with their own GPS in the box! Best to stick to the one each recommends, in my experience. Although in theory, they're roughly compatible. Another risk you take if you DIY.

Steve

my mate got a aftermarket antenna and works well.

Ok i got a demo of tom tom navigator 6 and i cant seem to get it to install on my N93...is there a trick?? obviously i cant use it as i dont have a antenna...i just wanna see what its interface is like, if its all good ill buy it on the tom tom website.

Thanks for any help

Jas

A demo? AFAIK, TomTom don't do a demo, care to share the URL you got it from? What you've got is probably some cracked and corrupted file. Just don't go there......

Steve

nah it is a copy of my mates one, hense why i call it a demo and i dont have a gps antenna...im going to look at it and see if i like it5, then i will legit buy it!

im not a pussy that uses cracked software ok...im a legit potential tom tom customer. But thanks for your assumption 😉

I, too, am a complete idiot on this...however, the fact that I could, theoretically hook up a GPS is one reason I bought the N93. (Then I find out the N95 will come w/one built in!). Anyway, does anyone know if this will work in Kuwait?

Thanks!

Hi all,
Two things firstly i disagree about the need to buy the complete package with bluetooth receiver and would advise going for just the DVD package that has all versions that you just install on your memory card obviously in this case you would choose the S60 3rd Edition .sis. I have a Holox GPS receiver that is both small light and has 100hrs battery life plus can be charged in car with a Motorola V3 charger as has a mini usb connector. This has both the newer RFMD chip set that both has faster acquisition times and also has support for up to 36 satellites and will actually work indoors allowing full route planning and to be up and running before even getting in the car.

Secondly i am not sure you will be able activate it as it is already activated on one device and i believe you can not activate on more than one device at a time, just look at how your mates runs and that should give you enough of an idea as to what it would look like on your N93. The only other point is it will not work in laptop/landscape mode but i actuality prefer it in flip open mode as more information is clearly visible in fact this is possibly the only app i do use in flip open mode.

Marc

ok well I tried it on my N93 and hated it, i have since uninstalled it and have gone with another dedicated sat nav....

I really wasnt impressed at all with the tom tom mobile....

@ Jaskel,
Well i will admit to being quite shocked at your finding but Hey it's a free world well nearly personally i have been using Tom Tom for ages on all my devices and love it but that's just me. If you don't like it use what suits you best it is after all only your choice to make.

GPS software doesn't care for the location. It will tell you your location anywhere it can find a GPS signal, it might just give you the latitude/longitude.

The thing you are actually purchasing are maps and POI (Points of Interest -- "nearest gas station" etc.) information.

TomTom doesn't provide maps for Kuwait. Navigon does though, but I don't believe they have a symbian port of their software (I used Navigon 5 on my PPC device).

As an update, the smart2go software (the software from the N95) has maps and information for Kuwait. You just need a GPS reciever.

The software and map information is free 😊 If you just need to lookup a location, then you really don't need the GPS reciever at all. If you need turn-by-turn direction, then you should get the reciever.

Note that this software requires a data connection for updates and other functionality.

I was using TomTom 6 on my N80 and loved it to death. I was using a Nokia LD-W30 (i think that's the model number?) Bluetooth GPS Reciever and it never missed a BEAT!

Upgraded to a N93i and I can't get ANYTHING (even Nokia Programs) to install 😞 Comes up with Certificate Error! Contact Application Provider for everything. A few people have been having this issue, just waiting for Nokia to find a solution so I can get my beloved Sat Nav back 😊

Have you tried disabling the security check?

Menu > Tools > App. Mgr. > Options > Settings

Software installation should be 'All' and Online certif. check 'Off'
