hello
i have had a new wireless broadband system set up at home which is working fine but not with my n80. i would like to be able to browse the internet, email and stuff via the livebox. i have done extensive research into this and tried many options and settings but still cant get it working. i would really appreciate any suggestions. heres where i am:
i have created a new access point and filled in the info correctly including my wep key. set the security mode to wep. when i launch opera it asked me to select the access point which it doesnt show the new point i created. if i change the security mode to ad hoc or wpa i can then see this connection but when trying to connect get a gateway error message even theough the phone has connected ad i can see this in my connections manager. it does however tell me the signal strength is 17% and chnages from inactive to active. the signal strenght normally is 100% the available connections told me this.
i really dont know what else to try i have rang orange and they are a bit unhelpful - think they would rather you use their connection as it so expensive.
i have been trying for over two hours and its doin my head in! HELP
To get your N80 and Livebox to connect to each other try setting Network Status to public & WLAN netw. mode to infrastructure in your created access point. Then in the Livebox configuration utility under configuration > advanced > wireless set it to WEP only.
This worked for me so give it a try and hopefully it will for you too.
I also had to define my access point when connecting to my livebox. If I set it to always ask my access point isn't listed!
Good Luck 😊

hi,
WEP didnt work, at least on v3.xxxx firmware - i suggest you reconfigure your wireless router to WPA + shared-key.
i have been using WPA for 3 months now with no problems.
To make the changeover smoother i suggest you initially set the router to public access (i.e. No encryption) and also ensure the Router SSID is not hidden.
once you have successfully connected all your WLAN devices (PC, N80, etc.) you can apply WPA with shared key to the router then reconfigure each device with the shared key
another good security measure for routers is to set a list of allowed devices (by IP ADDRESS) and block all unknown devices from accessing your WLAN router
finally, i think the N80 cannot connect to a wireless router if the SSID name is hidden - but this may have been fixed in FW 4.xxxx

There were forum threads on a number of Symbian sites discussing WLAN & WEP problems a couple of months back and the WPA shared-key suggestion worked for me.
Glad to head that WEP does work for some people! 😉
Maybe it depends on the router in use? (I use a NetGear DG834G)

To add my 2p worth, I can't get my WEP access point working for any program that calls up the "select Access Point" dialog" from within the program at the point that it is needed (Opera Mini, FreeNews etc). However, if there is a settings menu that allows you to define the Access Point (HandyWeather, ProfiMail), my home network is shown and I can select it without any problem.
thanks for the advice will try to sort it out. Why do things have to be so complicated at times!

By default the user name and password are both "admin" without the quotation marks
