Hi everyone,
Just discovered this forum while searching on google! I have purchased a nokia n80 on ebay lock to 3 UK. I have phoned 3 to request for unlock code but they told me that unless the original proprietor request for it, this cannot be done 😞
The phone is also on a new contract which was recently taken. I would like to know what type of sim card must I put in the phone - a pay-as-you-go or a normal 3 simcard? Can the Nokia N80 be blocked on 3 if I put the wrong type of sim card or can any type of 3 simcard be inserted?
Thanks 😊
Only the operator, can unlock the phone. The request of the code can be made by the legitimate owner.
I imagine any SIM issued by '3' will work.
if you put a sim from a different network i think it will lock it and you will need a PUK code, but they are easy enough to get hold of (i know orange and o2 do it online)

Hi Jaffa,
Sorry to disagree with you, but the above is incorrect.
If you put a SIM card from another network into a phone which is locked to one network, the phone will say something like SIM RESTRICTED or SIM NOT VALID.
The phone will NOT become blocked simply by inserting a SIM from another network.
A PUK code is required if you enter the SIM PIN-Code wrong 3 times, which is nothing to do with handset network locking.
Cheers,
Dez
Just my 10 pence worth.... Not sure exactly though.
I flashed my friends Nokia N80 who was on O2. He didnt want all the O2 garbage on it as it was annoying him.
There is an option when you flash with Pheonix to restore the phone to its original state. We tried this and all relevent O2 stuff had gone.
Im not 100% sure if its back to the blank nokia state. If you want ill ask him to put another sim card in his phone and see if it accept it.
If so all you will need to do is flash your phone!

Flashing your phone does not unlock it.
'restore the phone to its original state' removes all user data and restores the phone to as shipped, if you have flashed with a generic software it will be like a 'sim free' phone, but still locked.
Having said that a lot of 'O2' phones are unlocked from new, so your friends N80 may work with a different simcard.
Thanks for the reply everyone! Yes, indeed flashing the phone will not remove the lock. I guess that only the operator can unlock it, but it seems that there are some french guys who can unlock BB5 phones from any french operator now. Hope someone come up with a solution for the UK networks.
Anyone knows why is 3 so strict when it comes to unlocking their phones? You can purchase a used phone and still unlock it from orange, which is not the case for 3.

Hi Dave,
Flashing FW does NOT remove a network lock from a mobile handset.
The only way to unlock a BB5 Nokia phone is to get the original registered owner of the handset to purchase the unlock code from the relevant network.

just a quick update, my o2 sim didn't work in my orange phone, i kinda knew it wouldnt but thought i would try anyway 😊
I have an N80 which has been branded with Orange software. Does "flashing" get rid of this and if so, how do you go about it? Thanks, Odie.
