Very frustrated newbie her
had my N80 for 2 months and its just getting slower and slower!!! i hate it soo much come so close to binning it!!!
I am running V3 software and heard there is a new on out, and soon it will be downloadable off nokia website... is thiss true??? will this speed her up!!
i wanted it for sat nav, read here that it now works 😃 but need v4.... will this speed up my dam phone, it crashes so bad when sending messages, it holds on the sending message screen for a bout a minute!!!
also how do you save all your contacts off the phone.. is there a way to send them to your computer, i would be gutted if i lost them all!!!
also what do i need to buy for satnav, except software??? looked around and it really confuses me!!!

For sat nav, besides software, you needa Bluetooth GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver module. You can buy the sw and the GPS module as a bundle from companies like Navicore, TomTom, Route66, Wayfinder.
You can use PC Suite (http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite) to save your contacts to a PC (copy them as vCard files, use PC Suite backup, synchronize with Outlook or Lotus Notes/Organizer).
I'm pretty sure the N80 will also be supported soon for do-it-yourself firmware updating: http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate
I had this problem with my N80.
I backed up my phone then did a hard reset, then installed all my details back on it. That sorted out the problem.
Also flashing it to FW V4 kills alot of the bugs.
I too was really frustrated with sending messages on v3 firmware. Like you it would take a minute to send one text. Now I'm on v4 it is like a new phone. I would definatly recommend getting the phone firmware upgraded to v4. I love my N80 again
thanks guys i will try to back everything up tonight, and then try and update following the link when it comes available... does updating to v4 make you lose everything on your phone???
are there any compatible nokia car phone cradles available yet, i cant seem to find one!!!

Experience varies but assume you will lose everything. Use the backup to memory card facility (easier and faster than PCSuite), remove card during firmware update, reinsert and restore if required.
I think Brodit do a passive mount for the n80 - I use a generic one as I upgrade phones every year - or sooner 🙄
and just for incase you can download Contacts Transfer app. before upgradin'
to import your contacts from either SIM or phone mem. to mem. card

for people with the slow txting problem, after you ungrade the firmware its becomes fst again like it was when new, but once you have sent a few txts it starts to get slower and slower and eventually goes back to how it was, this phone sucks, no wonder i don't see anybody else with it 😞
i have the same problem regarding that... i have my N80 for 4 months but still it goes to fast after formating to slower wherein you have to format it again.. i wonder if all N80 units have the same problems, im planning to buy a new N80 one but it seems there are a LOT of problem on it... maybe N73 or N93 will do?
