I know the phone has had it's fair share of stick since it got released. But I have to say I don't think I could buy another phone now that didn't have WiFi and very high resolution screen. It'd be amazing if they enabled landscape browsing in a future firmware.
When I look at other people's phones now I think omg, that screen is hideous, aliasing all over the place, boring icon's etc!
I hope now v4 firmware enables FOTA then we'll see more frequent updates from Nokia with added features etc, I know I'm probably dreaming, but you never know 😊
Mine has 2 dead pixels. Would this be covered by warranty? They stand out on my dark theme.
You can try although companies call it a feature not a defect. In the UK you can return it within 24 days for no reason i think?
a dead pixel is a DEFECT altho nokia say it isnt, if u went out and got a grands worth of new HD LCD TV and it had a dead pixel the shop wud change it cos its a DEFECT, play ur face and get it sorted!

I have a 1300 42" Plasma TV (decent brand) and the manual states that dead cells are not a warranty defect unless there's more than a certain number.
Although I have never agreed with this policy on LCD and Plasma devices, that's unfortunately the way the consumer electronics inducstry works.
Your only guaranteed option is to get the N80 exchanged or refunded if you bought your phone mail order and are within the 7 or 14 day cooling off period.
If you bought it in a shop or off eBay, you probably have no such cooling off period and cannot demand a replacement (although you can always beg nicely!)
Dez
yer on most pc screens upto 17" mark they wont swap unless its over 4-7 dead pixels.
on a hdtv big screen i could see it been higher before they`l accept liabilty.
Unless the pixels are at side of each other

You can always just return it. Dead pixel isnt considered a defect by the companies however. Not worth the hassle of arguing it s a defect etc. Just return it straightforward using consumer laws.
The screen is awesome however. I would love my next phone to have VGA like the Sharp do in Japan. One handed VGA is godly.
depends...
are they two pixels directly side by side?
Sometimes this is enough for warranty... most TFT Panels have a 5 pixel limit, or 2 pixels side by side etc....
I would just say theres something else wrong, and they send a new handset out.
Ive gone through atleast 9 N80s untill my most recent one, which has been better than all the old ones in different ways..
Nice Quality Control there nokia..... 🙄
Well the screen of the N80 is nice, but not big enough. I also have the Nokia 7710 and that is a very nice screen. I still think that the screen of the 7710 is the best around with 640 by 320 resolution. Too bad it doesn't have the features of the N80. Also the S90 Operating system is now dead. I don't know why a very good (but ugly) phone.
So having used the 7710, the screen resolution of the N80 is not that great, barely passable for browsing or reading compared to the 7710.

7710 isnt a one handed phone. 😉 But yes that was the turn around when Nokia started to do amazing screens. I hope we get another device that uses the screen. Especially next years gaming devices.
There are lots of devices with better screens but none of them like N80. Otherwise you will be going 320x240 at best.
The N80's screen does make it excellent for browsing, and the maps in navigation software look good, too. It is a gorgeous screen and I hope we see more screens like this on more devices in future.
As for dead pixels, if it's really obvious you might be able to exchange it. But if they say it's not a defect you probably won't get anywhere arguing with them. There are rules written down somewhere about what per-centage of dead pixels is allowed on a screen, some searching might turn these up. The trouble is, dead pixels are pretty much the state of the art with this type of technology -- it comes with the manufacturing process. It would just cost too much to throw away all screens that had dead pixels. Or, to put it another way, you could get no dead pixels guaranteed but you'd have to pay ten times as much.

Agree:icon14: 7710 is a great screen. I also had one, and is the screen that E61 should have... or even 640x480!
I hope we see some cool screens soon. Mind you i am happy with the current one! I would liek to see some widescreen devices or is that not possible with S60 right now?
