not getting entire space of MMC

i hav bought a 1GB rsMMC but its showing only 975MB , is there any way to untilise the entire 1 GB.

i hav a 256MB MMC , its locked with password which i cannot remember,
i can use in my mobile but cant use it in card reader to transfer data ,i tried formating it but the password is still not gone, is there any way to remove the password,

The announced capacity is raw data capacity. When the card is formatted, space is used for setting up the directory structure (file system/file allocation table, root directory, other directories, volume label, their attributes, etc.).

The bigger the card, the bigger the size of this necessary "overhead".
