when saving a picture from the gallary as the wallpaper does anyone know how to make this cover the size of the screen

Only by making it part of a theme (the background image in one).

Only if You create a Theme with that image. Because, if You put an image like backgroud on another theme, it stays on stanbdy area, nothing more.

By using the Carbide.ui S60 Theme Edition downloadable from http://forum.nokia.com/ or if all you want to do is to get a full-screen background, then perhaps OwnSkin is the best way for you http://www.ownskin.com/
