does sim free mean that there are no network restrictions on the phone? i have just bought a n80 on o2 and cant get the firmware i need to install navicore personall 2006 on it,if i buy a sim free phone does that mean it wont be restricted by network versions of firmware? will i be able to get the latest version straight from nokia??

The O2 firmware should allow any Simcard. Generally if you ask your service centre nicely they should be able to upgrade your phone with a generic firmware though it may cost you to have it done.

In any case, a SIM free, retail model will have no operator restrictions and will be able to run the generic/retail firmware for the model (and that's usually also out/released before any operator variants).
