HI
Today is the Independence Day for Finland. Dec 6th 1917 we gained our independence from Russia and this of course means a lot to all of us Finns. Today is a national holiday and all the VIPs of this nation will be gathered tonight to a big ball given by the president. :bday:
At 6 o'clock pm everyone will light a candle or two (real candles preferably, not electric ones) on each window. If you go out to have a walk it is really pretty when it's dark outside and all the candles are shining from all the windows everywhere - and then there is the white snow.
Language test: HYV ITSENISYYSPIV SUOMALAISET!
Just wanted to share this with you guys
Jep, Hyv itsenisyyspiv. 😃
:bday:
Kyll, Hyv itsenisyyspiv eller Glada Sjlvstndighetsdagen! 😉
:bday:
Candle on every window? That is so nice, you sure know how to celebrate.
I wish people in my country did something similar on our independence day.
There's been and argument in newspapers about how this custom got started, but it seems that it's been done on certain celebration days in Finland since 1700's (well there was officially no such thing as Finland back them but here anyway)
:bday:
Happy Aniversary.
We all wish you the best.
