I'm surprised I have not been able to find an answer to my question on any of the forums. I'm using a Nokia E61 to receive e-mail through POP3. Now, once in a while I want to delete e-mails from the list... now I don't want to delete the e-mail from the server, so the only other option I have is: Delete e-mail from: Phone (hdr. remain). But after selecting this option, the e-mail is still in the list. How can I keep an e-mail on the server bit make it dissappear from the list on my phone? I'm using the latest firmware and the S60 e-mail application... Thanks!
Deleting e-mail from E61
I, too, had that problem with the built-in mail program in the E61. In my opinion, this application is the biggest failure in the E61 and is nearly unusable. I won't go into what else is wrong with it here, but there are several issues that for me were too hard to overlook.
So I found another solution - Profimail. This program is outstanding. It is much more customizable (small fonts), it works great with POP and IMAP, and it has tons of extras (including automatic updates!). For instance, it comes with a built in file explorer which I think is better than any others out there. If your email has links, it also has a built-in browser to view web pages. Overall, it is a great program with a reasonable price tag - $25 USD.
For me it was easy to justify the purchase since email is such a critical function for a device like the E61. I recommend downloading the Profimail trial and checking it out - it does not disappoint.

Unfortunately, no. But in the last release, they added support for the flashing light new mail indicator. I think the mapping to the email button is more a function of the OS (it really should allow you to change how that button is mapped - similar to the soft buttons).
Wow! Thanks for your answer... how difficult can it be to programm a simple delete function which keeps the e-mails on the server? I will try your recommendation.
I tried Profimail and it didn't take longer than 10 minutes for me to buy this software.. it makes sorting out e-mails and managing your inbox certainly a lot easier! Profimail also seems to work a lot faster! Pity about the 'e-mail key', though...
Sometimes the native email program doesn't map to the email button!
I have none of the above issues because I set up my external pops as main emails and just point email forwards to the email box set-up for the phone. That way I can delete merrily on the phone account or keep what I want, and I always retain backups of everything on my main pop acounts that the PCs download.

Would you have HandyClock or HandyAlarm installed by any chance? If you do, then they are the cause of the problem. There was a bug in the first versions of these programs that caused the email key to stop working from time to time. Install the latest versions and it should work fine again.

I second that.
Their customer support is great, too. I bought Profimail for use on a Nokia 6600 years ago and have forgotten about it ever since I switched to a Treo.
I am using a Nokia E61 now and when I contacted Profimail customer support and they sent me a new serial number in no time.
Does this program work with the BB client as well? It looks very interesting and I think I will test it out over the weekend.

No, it's POP3 / IMAP4 / SMTP only. But very good at that. The only thing i don't really like about it is the UI look. While it's a very easy to use and efficient UI, it looks like it's been designed 15 years ago under Windows 3.1. It doesn't really do justice to the beautiful E61 screen and doesn't really look the part compared to look of S60 3rd edition applications in general.
Can it maintain a data connection, and handle IMAP IDLE properly?
