After i've been tring to connect my N70 with USB for more than 4 days just because I didnt like the USB port it was connected to on my pc, (which port all my other 7 USB devices worked fine)
Now that its working i've been trying to update my N70 v3.05.36.23 to the latest firmware and updates with Nokia Software Updater v1.0.88en but it keeps telling me "cannot find phone" while in the Nokia PC Suite (latest version downloaded from Nokia website today) its telling me that my phone is connected with USB! I also tried to send and receive files from my pc to the phone to confirm the connection and it worked. But still the updater cannot find my phone!
I tried rebooting the phone and pc several times but it didnt help either. Precautions mentioned like "General Profile activation" and connecting charger.😡
My PC is running XP PRo with all the latest updates.
Anything I can do ?
Nokia firmware updater requires that you don't have any version of PC Suite or conectivity drivers. Remove them from Add/Remove hardware in Control panel and reinstall Nokia firmware updater without PC Suite. It should work.
Nonsence, Nokia Updater DEMANDED I had PC Suite installed...
It seems it's just a matter of luck with this crappy Nokia software, they've never quite got it right.. shocking in this day and age!
Anyway, if anyone continues to have probs I'd recommend biting the bullet, swallow that pride and take it to your local carphone warhouse or Nokia service centre! 😃
UPDATE!! I emailed Nokia about this problem and they gave me this link www.europe.nokia.com/A4176089?N70 and I downloaded the Software Updater version 1.0.88.EN which was the version I was using that didnt find my phone. I uninstalled mine and installed the freshly downloaded version. MAGICALLY it found my phone BUT told me that my phone software is already up to date ! It gave me the option to reinstall it and I did without any problems but im still running the old v3.05.36.23 firmware!
Anything else I can try ? My N70 was bought new from Nokia about 8 months ago and was simfree / unlocked.
