I'm trying to connect through my home 3com wireless. Its on 128 bit WEP.
The P990 is seeing and claims to connect to the network, but isn't moving traffic through it, or showing up on the router's connected devices list, which leads me to suspect that the WEP code is not going through. I've tried re-entering it, but no change yet.
Anyone got theirs working?
My next move I guess is to turn off encryption on the router to see if I can connect that way.
Jules. I have been struggling with my 128wep encrypted home network too. I have MAC filtering on, but I added my phone MAC and it (as yours does) connects fine, but data transfer just seems to kinda stop. Weird.
There was I about to throw the P990 away (as you do) when my bezzy mate asked me out for lunch. Old Commie St beckoned. Sitting in a pavement coffee shop (you know the one) I had a quick WLAN enabling session. Lo and behold, success. An open unsecured network and guess what, straight in. Downloaded all kinds of baaad stuff (not really).
So let me know how you get on with other networks. I will also try removing my home security bit by bit and see if it makes a difference.
I dont have a wifi so I cant test. I hope to hear answer from you both though😊
My Wi-Fi connected immediately.. My home network router showed up and it connected without any tinkering with the settings. You may want to ensure that you have the latest firmware.
OK got my home network working too. Belkin. I changed from 54G-auto to 54G-LRS and removed the WEP encryption. Instead I secure only with MAC address. Restarted the WAP and "hey presto" 😮 it worked.
My next job is to try to re-enable the 128 WEP. I suspect it'll work, but I'm going to bed.
What I did on mine is I have manually assigned an IP Address directly to my P990i and it works perfectly. I can browse the net, download RSS feed and received E-Mails. 😊
I have 64 WEP on my Belkin and Linksys routers
Thanks
I got it to recognize the WAN access in my office as well. It connects with no hitch.
So what is the bottom line to get P990 to connect to WIFI?
Ok I got connected no problems on a linksys with WEP. Problem is though cannot seem to brows my home network???

One common initial issue is that P990 does only 802.11b (11 Mbps max), while some access points either support only 802.11g (54 Mbps max) or need the slower speed enabled. RT*Ms.
In a particular case, there can be any of several issues at play. Maybe this Wi-Fi Setup Guide can help. Or try googling wifi setup.
Got my Orange-branded P990i yesterday, it associates with my Access Point, but connections fail. Using a network packet sniffer, I can see that the P990i's implementation of ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) is broken - it doesn't pad ARP REQUEST packets to a legal minimun size as required by RFC 1042. This means the WLAN is junk, that might connect to something equally broken, but not anything that implements the appropriate standards correctly.
Hi all,
My WLAN connection with my P990 at home is working well (WEP) but the one at work (open) doesn't. For example, when trying to retreive email, the phone keeps telling me "the download failed becasue the account has errors in its servers settings". However, my laptop connects smooth as silk.
I am not too savvy with wireless networks, so am not too sure what to do next. Idea?
you will probably need to check if you can connect with 802.11b on your office WLAN. my office uses 802.11a so i configured my laptop which has a a/b/g wireless card and used the P990 to connect to my laptop (adhoc network) to get to the office WLAN.
Just make sure your router is not broadcasting on channel 13. For some reason the phones don't like it and refuse to work.
