Firmware and memory

hi all 😃
quite new here although some of u might have seen me in neowin forums b4. Just wondering since we all complain about the memory limitations on our 7650's and wish it had an expansion option, has any1 thought about the possibilities of the upcoming firmware update improving memory on the phone ala t68 ----> t6i firmware update. Just a passing thought. any opinions (or wishful thoughts?)

cheers guys 😃

(any1 know of any rts games on the way for the 7650?)

What,Nokia actually listening to us and maybe removing not needed languages and maybe deleting unplayed games (User custom firwmware),it has been discussed before.I dont think so.Maybe someone with the proper hardware (Nokia flash box) and knoledge can do this and make some cash in the end 😊

foxhound:how about a firmware that is compressed?
from what I know the 7650 is 40mb but 36 is used by the firmware.if we have a firmware that uses less memory voila more space for us.

now:GET CRANKING.
By the way I spent 18 years of my life in saudi arabia.

No wonder your name is Purple Mustang! Saudis love mustangs! 😃
(there's a purple one near my neighborhood, could it be you ? 😃)

Well Fox Hound, the time has come, the window of oppurtunity is WIDE OPEN!

PS: i sent you a message about eid, then i remebered nobody has arabic on the 7650, did you see it?

i think the 7650 has 15 megs, but only 3.6 is accesable. though i might be like terribly wrong, i'm not sure where i read that actually, so someone correct me if i'm wrong

IF you live in turkey-ankara yes I am the one.
I am sure that the total memory was 40 mb.anyway somebody compress the firmware.

there's no point in compressing the firmware because it's not possible to write to that memory (ROM) without a special cable and software on a computer. So it would be of no use since the phone can't use that gained memory anyway.

Well,i said that someone with the proper hardware (Nokia flash box) and knoledge could do that.I dont think that compressing the firmware is a good idea. The best way would be deleting the extra langugaes and not used apps/games and somehow formating the created freespace.Someone brought up an issue before about similar app for Palm? I think that the idea was noticed by Ximplify. They might be working on something like that right now.

Yeah someone posted that Ximplify are brewing a surprise or something that will amaze us all! Can't wait!!

that would be cool

ditch the games, they are rotten!

im sure there are lots of other stuff you can ditch

a test for this theory is to get a hold of a phone (i know some are out there, i spoke to a guy on irc who had one) which has had customizations done on it by the service provider. This guy had no bluetooth, so i imagine, it has been flashed without the bluetooth conenction software.drivers etc. If he has more memory thatn a normal 7650 does ......bingo!

7650 with no bluetooth? I find that hard to imagine.what are you trying to tell us,no bluetooth hardware in the device? Or no bluetooth device drivers? This sound really strange!?!? :silly:

I wouldn't mind losing a couple KBs for bluetooth managers and drivers since the hardware is already there! Won't be of use taking the software out, you still have the hardware, so make use of it cause its still gonna be there 😉
But i'd like to see, how much memory can they spare if they took out all langauges, those games, even gprs and wap functionalities (for me only, i never use them! Thats why i have a pc 😉 actually it's too slow and expensive here, no GPRS) and take out everything i would want! Could we really see about 8 mb memory

Come to think of it, my so called "modified" 7650 won't even be able to initiate a call after all those modifications!! then again... Who need's a "phone'??? 😃

yeah ghost dog

this guy i spoke to over irc, his service provider diabled the bluetooth, there were no drivers onhis phone as such

i browsed my phone to the zdrive where the btutil (or whatever the dir is) is on mine, and his had none

i told him to contact a nokia service centre and get it reflashed

im sure there is another thread on this forum as well which discussees a UK service provider trying the same trick

no bluetooth = more money spen on GPRS email ing yourself app = more $$
