Anyone had experience in trying to get a contract 3G sim from Orange when you have a sim-free N80? Currently I'm using my old 2G sim from my old phone and I'm stuck on GSM networks only.
All attempts I've made have just resulted in Orange effectively telling me "tough" and I should go buy an Orange branded N80 on a new contract (and I'm locked into a contract thanks to an Orange scam that locked me into a new contract for going with a discount offer). I want to keep the current phone number so I tend to stick with the same contract anyway.
Vastly different approach than O2 then. I'd contact them and point out that they are missing out on additional payments from you for the use of 3G services. From what I've heard Orange seem to do very little to keep their customers until you get to the retention department.
Number portability isn't too bad nowadays - it's only takes a week to move numbers rather than the month it used to. Personally I'll move if I'm unhappy, and I make sure my provider nows that from the outset. I bought my N80 sim free 'cos I was fed up with waiting for O2 to release it (they provided a 3G sim free of charge), and used the hassle of repeatedly changed N80 release dates as a bargaining chip to re-negotiate a 50% off deal on my contract package.
Orange just don't seem to care if you point out they'd potentially lose a customer or how much cheaper things are with other operators :frown: .
Number porting is an option when my contract is up and I can move to another operator, so long as they'll let me have a 3G contract without having to buy a 3G phone. I've got 3 or 4 months to go yet though.
Problem is I'd prefer to stick with Orange for the coverage, yet they suck for things like this, plus their data costs are outrageous.
Ive done this, but since left orange as i found their coverage to be pap around this area...
I had a orange 2G sim, rang them and requested i be sent a 3G usim, they said yeah sure fine fine, but upon receipt i only got a 2G sim yet again 😡
The best bet is ebay, plenty of sellers on there sell 3G usims for about 5 delivered, they are new and sealed as well. Then call orange on your old sim, and tell them you have a 3G sim you want to port your number to, and provided your advisor is any good they'll sort it, mine was done in like five seconds flat, and they sent a hit to my old sim to kill it off. All credit etc was transferred as well.... and i even got my 1 refunded into airtime for the GSM sim they sent me that i didnt need!
Orange CS ive found when you get through to be very helpful, but ive had several mishaps with them and lacking in reliability due to signal so I switched to vodafone. That said, orange when i did have albeit a weaker signal, seemed to have a far great 3G coverage wrath than vodafone do at the moment around here.:icon14:
Yeah, I've seen the ebay USIMs, but they're all PAYG. Would Orange transfer my contract onto a PAYG USIM?
I can understand them porting the number onto a PAYG sim and you just use the PAYG, but I'd still be paying for the contract. Though then again, maybe I can live with that for a few months until the contract is up.
Problem with PAYG is I have concerns about limitations when roaming overseas. Maybe there aren't any these days I don't know, but I need to be able to use the phone in Europe and North America. Mostly for a little bit of internet use. Then again with the phone having WiFi I might be better off signing up to a cheap public wifi provider and using them as I'll mostly be in places with hotspots nearby (in fact in the US many of the hotels have free wifi anyway😃).
Hmm, I must look into this. Maybe ditch the contract and go PAYG is the answer.
