vodafone locked phones

Hi all,

I am just back in malaysia for a holiday, and took my spanking new 7650 along with me.

I tried using the phone with a local sim card and i got a 'sim reject' error message.

I tried this with several diff providers (celcom, adam, maxis. i dont know why my parents aren't all on the same one) and none of them work. I thought that it might be a problem with the local sim cards being of the older variety, but one of them was changed just this year.

I eventually had to resort to calling up vodafone in the uk and was told that vodafone has started locking their phones!

This really sucks. They have never done this before and i hope they would stop this practise. Vodafone was trying to be helpful ( in a way ) by referring me to a company that would unlock it for me.

Well, enough ranting already. I am suppose to be on holiday, damnnit.

Aren't you gonna unlock it? how much does it cost anywayz, if it's cheap then do it! you don't wanna be stuck phoneless on a holiday![/url]

When you're back in the UK you could ask for some service from your sales person. Or maybe a nice discount ! 😉

Have you since tried it with a different network UK sim card? and does that not work either? strange.

I bought my 7650 sim free but a mate got his on Voda 2 months ago and that wasnt locked. I bought a Voda contract T300 two weeks ago and that wansnt locked either.

Hi!

I can't try another uk sim, being as i am 9000 miles away at the moment.
My brother also reported a sim reject when he tried to use a Orange sim card on his 7210, which was bought around the same time.

I will probably go ask the nokia shop here first before trying other options 😊

FYI, i bought the phone at a local Vodafone retail in London.

I bought my 7650 today 😊 i few of my mates have had them for awhile, i tryed the SPV and T300 but the 7650 is so much nicer! Vodafone have now started locking there 7650's ... And putting an ugly badge on the battery cover too! [Yuk, bad vodafone, getting like Orange, and we dont like them] So thats that! However they are going to unlock it for me For free [phoned up, Customer services - 176666]
