You can play AVI files using SmartMovie.

From the research I've done, SmartMovie seems to be the best - v.3.25 works very well for me and I get smooth full motion video with no jittering of the picture, regardless of the action on screen. Realplayer seems pretty crap to be honest.

What you will find makes a big difference is the transfer rate of the card. Now, you might find differently in practice, but from what I've read around the web, Kingston cards are not the fastest. If you're able to return it and get a different brand (check the transfer rate) I'd recommend it, or else see how it goes for you - you may have no problems. I got my card off EBay, the brand is PQI 1GB MMC Mobile - I think it's Taiwanese make, from a Hong Kong seller, for only about 12 new. The point was it was 170X transfer speed which I believe is largely responsible for such smooth video.

Also with SmartMovie (3.25) select 'optimise for N70' and you'll get good results. It wasn't going to convert some files, such as .MOV or DVD's so I pre-converted with Total Video Converter to MS AVI -> XVID or DIVX AVI, which gave great results (you may need to download the DIVX/XVID codecs for this) - convert at full size using this, then run the result through smartmovie to convert to the right size etc.

It is good, but I rather TCPMP because he decodes alot of formats and it is not so restrictive regarding the size of the clip. I play videos 320x240@30 fps with no problems. Try one of the beta versions, it is free and I posted it on the forum.

Go to Nero Digital page, download the movies there, and see them with Real Player, and find any fault! To have a good movie, the problem is not the player but the encoder. So Real Player or another is able to reproduce good movies, if, only if, they had been well produced...
