Hi All, Just picked up an E61 and am really liking it so far but coming from a Nokia 9300 I'm finding this Symbian version a few bits less intuitive/functional.
My main gripe at the moment is the sheet app. Does anyone know if it is possible to actually copy cells? I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.
It's possible to copy the contents of a cell using ctrl-c in "edit grid" or "edit cell field" mode but all this does is copy the text. A basic requirement is to copy a cell that has references to other cells and update the reference when it's pasted. Maybe I'm just being stupid but I'm buggered if I can find a way to do this.
Thanks.
I had been meaning to ask the same question. Using E70. I select a bunch of cells then use CTRL-C to copy, when I use CTRL-V to paste it only pastes the contents of the first cell that I selected. Not being able to copy and paste a range of cells would make it incredibly tedious to use 😡
I have been experimenting a bit for the past few weeks seeing how little I can use my laptop. The E61 plus the Nokia Bluetooth keyboard gets pretty close, but the lack of instant messaging and the buggy Sheet application are my major complaints. I also came across the copy/paste problem in Sheet. I cancopy formulas, but only one by one, and the relative paths are not preserved, so I have to go and edit each one manually. This nearly defeats the purpose of having a spreadsheet. I suspect that the copy paste problem is a bit bigger than just Sheet. Copy and paste is generally badly or at least partially implemented throughout the E61. When I find a companies'phone number on a web site and want to dial the number : (1) The browser doesnt want to allow me (as with Opera) and secondly I cannot seem to copy the number. I resort to memorising the number and typing it into Notes three digits at a time (my poor brain...) and have to flip between browser and notes three or four times. This sounds REALLY stupid I know - but how else?
Add to the copy/paste issue the bug that one cannot insert formulas, and that it is virtually impossible to get any help documentation or support on Sheet and one ends up lugging around and hauling out the ol' laptop. If Nokia is serious about the 'Multimedia Computer' schpiel then they will need to give more attention to detail. I get the impression they slapped Sheet in just so that people would THINK they are getting Office apps, and hoped that no one actually tried them out.
Enough spleen venting - I actually love my E61.

Quite right about the first point - clipboard functionality is horribly crippled compared to Windows Mobile and previous Symbian OS implementations. 8-(
The insert formula thing and Help screens are sorted out in the new E70 firmware though, they work ok here.

Playing around with it a bit more, it is possible to copy & paste a selection of cells. But it looks like it only works in portrait mode (in E70 of course, so if you're using E61 you're out of luck 😊, or have to experiment a bit more).
The mechanism is the usual "hold down PENCIL and move cursor to select etc". However I am pretty sure when I tried this previously it did not work. What may have happened to make it work now is that I had fiddled about with the options and on one of them I selected "edit grid", after that I was able to copy & paste. The weird thing is that I cannot find that option anymore :con?
Well done for spotting this workaround, which works fine. When not in the 'Edit grid/cell-field' mode, the flip closed Edit key works fine, with pasted cells even showing re-adjusted formulae for the new location. It's a shame that ctrl-v in keyboard mode doesn't work the same way though 8-(

Sorry guys, no help here.
I just want to echo your problems. I use excel for glossaries. It's heavy slow and you can't edit basically. They lie about the office edit capabilities. I have to transfer the glossaries from the 9300 that i already edited to have something workable. Goes to show excell is probably great for accountants, but it's no use for simpler uses.
And by the way, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY ON EARTH SYMBIAN GAVE UP THE GREAT "DATA" APP?
I console myself by surfing at very decent speeds with wifi and the neat internet app
