TomTom 6 - N80

30 replies · 9,764 views · Started 28 September 2006

Anyone else notice that TomTom 6 on the N80 is abit jerkey? Like its not a smooth stream of instructions?

Mine seems to jerk around abit. Im only using the standard N80 mini SD card which could possibly be the problem..

Anyone else have these issues?

i havent used tomtom for anything more then displaying a map of my location. i'll try it out with some guided directions tomorrow and report back. so far i really like it.

Yeah, having the same problem.

Program works a treat but when you get into a town with a few quick twists 'n' turns the lag (Jerky screen update) makes map following almost impossible.

Had the older (TomTom Mobile 5) Running on my old Nokia N70 and it whistled along except for the bluetooth connection problem.

Thought the delay might be when you have a few POI's showing so I turned all POI's off but still the same problem.

Even when you run the route demo on the phone, the demo seems to stutter away around bends and roundabouts.

I will continue to test and play about with the settings, if anyone else has any ideas..................

All the best guys.

Keep tasting the gravy.

Beef

I'm running mine with a standard 2GB card on V4 with a 32-channel Holox receiver.
Theres's no more lag on it than with my 6600 - which is OK, but not unacceptable.

Ive not had the sound on (i generally prefer it without) and my display lags only 1 sec behind no more -i would say it runs smoother than it did on my 6680. i will put the sound on and see if it stutters later.
(2gb cheapo card and firmware v3.0618.0.2 on three)

used mine last night , 20 channel nokia reciever , seemed to work fine no prob`s with the slight lag allthough i did get all the instructions in time.

only prob i have is i have a bluetooth headunit , which accepts voice calls , but when activated i get no sound from tom tom.

i have used tomtom on a 6680, N70, and now N80, and when using a BT headset the first word of every voice prompt is cut off - but this may be a limitation of the Motorola HS810 headset i have used on all 3 phones?

as for graphics rendering rate the N70 with TomTOM 5 was the smoothest in my experience (around 8 frames per second) but the N80 seems more like 5 FPS

All 3 phones suffered badly with reduced frame rate and crashed with lots of Poi enabled for display and appeared to be down to 1 - 2 FPS before crashing.

anyway to cut a long story short TT6 seems very stable with all poi disabled and map redraws are fairly smooth in edinburgh and glasgow areas of map, including city centre

Ive been doing some reading. Possibly an issue with TomTom6.0.1.0 can ppl with the slowness please post version numbers

Aparantly is better with v6.0.0.1

Ta

Mine is 6.010 (7640) and it really lags a bit (using holux gpslim236)
Regds

Edit: also lags in demo mode speed 100% no sound (whether in 2D or 3D modes) so not a problem from our gps receivers.

I just got mine i-blue gps receiver. Everything is running smoothly even with POIs on. No choppiness at all. However, I was not at a very busy area though.

What phone SW version Jin? hard to belive 1 person is having all the luck. Im dissapointed with the performance of Tomtom 😞

i tested tomtom with a 5 minute route from work to home, gave directions perfectly, no problems at all. overall i really like tomtom. its not perfect but its the best gps applications ive seen for the n80 so far.

mine doesnt stutter, but the display doesnt update whilst the voice is talking! -anyone else had this?
(2gb cheapo card and firmware v3.0618.0.2 on three, TTv 6.010 (7640) GPS:BT-77 fps:1)

Please post what GPS receivers and rough average fps. I get around 5fps like someone posted earlier in the thread.

Me = Holux GPS Slim

frames per second, -just count/guess how many times it updates per second.

ok Ive updated mine (bt77 1fps) Ive never had better than 1fps (on tt5 on 6680) and i didnt think it would be possible to have more as the gps receiver only processes new infomation once per second (Link for holux slim spec=Update rate: 1 HZ(max)). Im sure my old tomtom used to lag more than one frame behind and update once per sec, tt6 on my n80 seams to update once per sec but be keap up pretty well (1 sec behind).

I'm running on V4.0623.0.41. Is it choppy even on the highway voona? Where do you put your gps receiver while you are driving?

Here's an interesting observation on TT6 3D mapping...

I ran an identical Route Demo on an N80 and an N73 at the same time (and at the maximum 500% speed)

The N73 finished the route (8 miles distance) whilst the N80 was still at about 3/4 along the route!

It would appear the higher resolution of the N80 screen slows down the refresh rate of the 3D maps (obvious really?) because both the N80 and N73 share the same 200Mhz ARM processor and similar internal memory. The maps were also stored on identical Mini-SD cards, from the same manufacturer & source.

😮

fps is how many times a second tom tom updates the 3d map on the screen

whilst driving along a str8 road at 60 miles per hour its quite easy to see the road markers move on the map and as the fps is quite low, below 10, you can count or guess the fps

I reckon the N70 was about 8 fps and the N80 is less, maybe 5 fps

it could be that tt6 is works the cpu harder than tt5 but the N80 has a more powerful one than the N70, so i am assuming the higher resolution of the N80 is a major factor - (old PC games used to run poorly if too high a screen resolution was set)

the above is another reason to keep poi's disabled with tomtom as theres less to calculate and draw without poi's

I loaded TT6 on a 5500 sport and it works fine. No lag at all.

Only problem is no sound.

Anyone have a fix for that as I really need that to be working as the screen on the 5500 is too small to use in practice.

Cheers

Ignore my last post, as soon as I turned the phone of and on, TT6 worked flawlesly on a 5500 Sport. Sound also.

Thanks.

Does any1 know how to install tomtom 6 on N80? I downloaded the software but cant really install it on my phone. I would really appreciate any kind of help. thanxx

How much actual phone memory do you guys have running tomtom, would this have an effect I have around 27MB phone memory free and its very smooth...:icon14:

Well I've got everything to meet the requirements i.e. 2 GB mini SD, Software and data cable, but I cant download the software on my phone. Can some1 please help me out. Cheers

try upgrading to lastest version using nsu or fota, i have n80 V4.0623.0.42 running tomtom 6.010 (7640) and works perfectly.

Running 6.010 I find if I get a text then I have to exit TT6 to read it. There seems to be little relationship between the phone and TT6.

It works fine as a Sat Nav, however as a combined satnav/phone it just won't work. I don't know if this is normal?
