E62 Backlight Different than E61..Help

14 replies · 6,656 views · Started 02 October 2006

Hopefully this forum will be friendly to an E62 user....crippled though the E62 may be.

I've picked up an e62 from Cingular and just loaded TomTom Navigator 6 on it. Everything works fine except the backlight is always OFF, no matter what. I assume that this is a difference in firmware between the 61 and 62 as this doesn't happen on the E61. Since TomTom is probably not going to support Symbian in the US, this will probably not be addressed.

I had hoped that S60SpotOn (an always-on backlight application) would override whatever TomTom is doing, but that's not the case. With this app the backlight cycles on and off about every 5 - 7 seconds, which helps a bit, but not SO much.

I was wondering if anyone famliar with Symbian and these phones might be aware of the difference in the API or whatever controls the backlight, or if someone could assist me in writing a program similar to S60Spot on that might work "better".

IF this is the wrong forum for this type of query I'll apologize in advance.

Thanks,
Marc

If I start Tomtom on the E62 it immediately starts with the back-light turned off.
But if I just let it sit until the "Idle screen" (the one with the time display) turns on. then activate/wake it up the back-light turns on and stays on.

Give it a try!

Shark my friend I need your help...I can't make mine do what yours does...so to speak. I've started tomotom, the baclight pref is set to dim Never

In Config>PHone Settings>Display I have the following settings

Light Sensor - in the middle
Power Saver - 1 Minute
Light Time-Out - 15 seconds

Active Idle is ON

I can't think of any other settings that would apply.

I start TomTom, backlight is off. No matter how long it sits the screensaver never comes on. So I hit the "Menu" key to get out, wait for the Screen Saver to come on, then Hold Down Menu and "reactivate" TomTom, and no backlight.

What are you diong differently in settings or otherwise. What version of TT6 are you using? I've got 6.010 (7640)

Thanks, Marc

Thanks for posting the solution.

However I suspect the problem is caused my a bug so I hope it will get fixed in a firmware update.

p.s. E62 users very welcome.

i have an even better and fast solution, when you open up the program and press accept and it displays the map try this:

press the blue key + Own, to bring up your "own menu"

press the blue key + Own again to escape from the "own menu" and return back to the tomtom program, it should now be lit up!

Haha awesome it works. How did you figure that one out? :icon14:

i figured it out cause i got pissed that i couldnt see anything, so i pressed every single key to see what would happen, then i figured this out.

Does yours stay on permanently? After doing the blue +Own key mine stays on for several minutes, maybe 5 or 6 but eventually it will turn itself off again.....

Ha, I finally found the solution from howardforums dot com.
A program called Light On, will work.
