TT6 vs Route 66 Mobile 7

First of all Hi everyone, I have found a lot of useful info here and now I have a question that maybe someone can help me with please.

I am considering buying one of these Sat Nav systems for my phone. Are they fairly similar or is one much better than the other, I noticed that Route 66 dont have any subscription sytem which seemed a good thing to me but it does seem like TT6 is more popular, is there a reason for that other than its been cracked and easily downloaded.

It says on the Route 66 site that you need a card reader/writer to install the software, I have no card reader/writer so if its not possible to install using the copy paste method in Windows I guess I'll just have to get the TT6 thats already on a memory card.

TomTom every time, its the most popular because it is by FAR the best satnav i've used whether it be on a phone or a proper unit.

I would say TomTom all the way.
I have limited experience with R66 but my experience with TomTom on my N70, it's perfect and I have just bought a LEGAL version of TomTom 6 from Ebay for 70. Bargain.
I think tomtom has probably been pirated because its so good, not the other way round?

Ive not had a go with r66v7 but there ast version was ok compared to tom tom the maps were better, but you couldnt add downloaded POIs (inc speedcams) and it looked a bit more primative. i dont know how improved the new version of r66 is tho.

Hi, I've got an N80 but have never used satnav before - if I got TT6, which says it's compatible, would I need to buy the GPS receiver as well? If so, the one they sell on their website doesn't say it's N80 compatible, so what do you do? How does it work otherwise? I imagine if it needs to use the network (02 in my case) instead to receive updates somehow, that I'll be paying call charges every time I use it! I don't understand! Help?

you'll need a gps receiver. pretty much all bluetooth ones are compatible with the N80. for traffic updates, it's not the gps that does it it's the phone. so your phones gprs or wap or wireless lan would do that.

Tomtom is a fantastic bit of software but the customer support SUCKS!

I bought a BRAND new SEALED version of Mobile 5 from Ebay earlier this year. Activated it, used the Tomtom plus subscription services, updates etc.
But when I left my present company who wanted their phone back, I called Tomtom to get the software activated on my new phone (which I had removed from the previous phone) and they flatly refused.
They stated they offered no support for a second hand product. and that I would need the original proof of purchase from the item from the retailer.
Obviously I bought this from Ebay and cant get this.
So this is advise for anyone buying a tomtom software package.
DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY!!!! (or dont buy tomtom)

Tomtom have really hacked me off about this, so much so that I may even try another system. Its times like this that make you realise why people ripp off their software...I would never buy it again!

If you register an account on TomTom Support site, there's an option to activate your product online, including an option to transfer the activation to a new device.

If the website is not allowing you to transfer the licence, then your activation code has already been used on 3 different phones.

P.S. If you bought TT5 on ebay less than 6 months ago, and paid via PayPal you can register a PayPal Dispute against the seller and maybe get some of your money back...

Hope this info helps.

Hang on a minute with your advice because I think that you are being unfair with that comment. Why should he register a dispute through Paypal against the Ebay seller? The Ebay man has done nothing wrong. He sold 'newpond' a sealed version of TomTom Mobile 5, it was genuine, all present and correct and worked perfectly. Just beacuse TomTom are not being helpful in transferring the registration/activation from one phone to another is in no way the fault of the Ebay seller.

Just download it for nothing, get one back over them.
