Switcher and ram space survey

23 replies · 5,395 views · Started 08 December 2002

Hi everyone. I would like to have an advice from you GUYS. I know some of you have switcher just like me...and I would like to know how much free mem you have because I would like to know the average ram space that a 9210i should have free in order to work well. Mine is 2421 with desk, messages and tel running...and when I re-boot it's over 3095 but not over 3100. Do you think it's correct or my ram is filled up with crap? Thank you very much...THE GODFATHER. :P

well good for u after i reboot mine shows only 2646kb
and i'm only running switcher and desk!!! Plz help!!! need more memory!!!

I don't use Switcher, but a custom program. It reports that I have about 3.7 MB available after a reboot (with only this custom program running) and about 2.6 MB when apps like Messaging, Calendar also open.

at least here it is 3600kb free try
avail give you more free memory
and with smartmemory there you will see what going on on your 9210

And there is no way of getting more RAM? I mean you cannot go to any store to byu a memory chip or two?

I know I'm not the first one to say this, but Communicator could really be a miniature laptop, but lack of RAM makes it difficult to use. You always need to close essential applications (and then wait while they open again) to do something extra.
Otherwise you get all sorts of error messages. And the messages don't even say where the real problem lies but make up new explanations every time. In the beginning I used to believe what the messages say and was puzzled trying to figure out what was missing or whatever. Now I now I just have to close the calendar, contacts and whatever else I have runnign, and try again.

I agree with you Laura. At times it's really frustrating when the 9210 can't open things or needs an awefull lot of time... ...I get so mad!!!! I just hope that the next 9210 series will fit perfectly our needs...well already this series is really good, but for some aspects Nokia could have done better!!!! :-? 😮 :agrue:

realy it is important that you have your 9210 in a top condition
I advice the real 9210 freak to get the most out of it to look here for the best results you will glad when you have done like was written on this site
Translation in english also is is not a Reclame for this site but only helping to solve your problems
in my 9210 i have always space enough now

RAM optimization for 9210 and 9210i

http://www.aikon.ch/tipps/speicherauswahl.htm

Thanks to Colin

Here a important part of it but the whole thing is already posted in my former answer

More RAM in 9210

How here evident brings is the optimization C-drives theoretically not particularly much, how one can "increase" however the main memory 9210?

1. One should not use a background picture on the Desktop, necessarily approx.. 150 KB !
2. One should not use a lateral strip picture, also this necessarily approx.. 50 KB !
3. Instead of task managers should one better task Switcher use, because this is not constantly loaded and seems the main memory also substantially better to clear up!
4. The calendar excessively should not be large, starting from more than 150 KB lasts that shop also for a long time!
5. Likewise eat more contacts also substantially more memory!

To everyone it naturally is left where it some at memory save can or wants, yet the memory filled as in Windows with the time inevitably and hie there and is a RESET indispensably, how since firmware 4,13 is the memory management nevertheless quite stably!
Times short a RESET with the repeated pressing of Strg + alto + SHIFTS + K cannot harm thus, particularly if one telephones frequently for a long time, that the memory for absolutely unknown reasons is filled exactly there and if it is full implements that 9210 a RESET, even if one is still at the telephone!

Contact data base make smaller/clean

Unite it perhaps already was noticeable, the contact data base grows with each entry and also with will delete from contacts not smaller, the same applies to that to add and do not remove from pictures.
There is partly also the phenomenon with an existing entry a new number is added, after that stores is then this new entry available plus again the same field however empty, or in addition, if there are problems with the synchronisation helps following method often...

These two problems can be repaired relatively simply, under contacts with SHIFTS + Strg + B a new data base provide (in our example test mentioned!) Afterwards in the left opinion Strg + A select around all data to select, now SHIFTS press + Strg + M and after test shift all contacts (this lasts 4min with 100 entries approx., thus a little waits...)
Now the new data base test can be opened and again all contacts with Strg + for A be marked and via SHIFTS + Strg + M again back after contacts be copied, voila the redundant long deleted data disappeared and the editing problem likewise. Memory requirements can be determined before like also afterwards with Strg + P.

Note: One has contact contacts appears during that to shift a reference (data to really delete and bla bla bla...) of these can confidently with be answered, it remains everything available......

Nokia InterNet sides remove

The Nokia starting side which anyway none wishes eats still some KB at memory into 9210! In the file manager Strg + SHIFTS + K select, thereupon system listing indicate select. Now under C:\System\apps\Web all files delete EXCEPT web.ini!
Now still Strg completely + K the starting side or deleted in the Webbrowser under menu > options > must be adapted to attitudes or, otherwise an error the appropriate side proven there each time is no longer present.

Contacts on the memory card shift

The contacts can be shifted on the memory card (under contacts) menu - > file - > further options - > new data base to select and thus a data base on the memory card (or also internally, this does not play a role) to provide, afterwards all contacts into this data base to shift.

NOTE: This has however a substantial disadvantage: Normally the suitable number can be entered in addition (the same if a SMS arrives), this functioned however with another than the standard data bank not with SMS etc. of the names and 9210 searches, therefore I advise against personally!

Calendars data "make smaller"

Under (calendars) that menu - > options - > shifting/deletion hides itself a very useful function, there can on the one hand old dates etc. be deleted around the calendar to accelerate or instead of to delete be able the dates also into a file to be written. This can be opened then simply in the file manager and shows immediately the dates on (with latches one returns to it again the current calendar.
Thus it is also possible several calendar files "administers", whereby the dates opened of the last are alarmed only in each case.

Help files shift

Various programs store your Help files in the listing C:\System\Help , these files can also in the listing D:\System\Help be shifted, everything functioned exactly directly, or in addition, a complete delete is permissible, if one does not need the Help files!

also a good advice is overhere

TIP
and IN c systems
c:systems/install
there are al ot of little installed programs
make in d a map install
d:systems/install and bring all the c stuff to d install EXCEPT (NOT) INSTALL.LOG

The best tipp for Ram is to keep just to keep deks and tel open all the time but close all the others. I get about 3500mb after boot. With desk image and sidebar image. Because of the memory leak in the v3.18 this goes down to 3mb after a few days of use.

The key will probably be in the installation of apps.
After a format I installed the sis file from Nokia that filled my c: with all the necesairy apps.
but I didn't install the sis from the mmc. I installed the seperatly available sis files for Office.

This seem to help me a lot. Probably some apps are installed which run in memory.

More messages in your messaging app seem to consume more memory even when messaging is not running. This is just a impression 😉

For the moment I'm quite happy with my free memory, it seems that if I install the newest firmware I will have about 3.4mb (at least) + have nice images on desk 😊

Apps installed:
the nokia.sis
smartmemory
appman
oplruntime
iconmanager
appforge runtime
vexed

For more details check my screenshot in a previous thread 😉

BTW I agree that switcher is better than taskmanager.
I just like appmanager for all the extra features.

very kind of your answer

bedankt overigens

I agree that all closed is the best appman takes indeed more kb

there are some programs running on the background also
with your configurations i have free of space from 42 till 45 % 3600 till 3800kb

logbook takes also a lot of kb so 1 or two days of memory of callingsmemory is for me enough

The geust have also some sugestions i think
give us your opnion thanks in advance

got about 47% on reboot 😊
But I (almost) never clear my log ... 😊
Maybe I should, get some more memory free again 😊

oke I run gps on 9210 so a lot of mb for city maps and routplanner thats wy a have 2% less than you have

Problem with 9210i the installation is after formatting a whole goup of sis in total is on it even wap which i do not want every time when i delete wap in sytems it returns
Is the ini file of systems responsible for that returning wapstore and wapreast.dat ?

We should check that. THe biggest thread running on my 9210 is WAPSTKSRV
I keep killing it but it comes back everytime :s (it's about 150kb)
Don't know if this is used for wap or if it means more ...

BTW Desk is 64Kb with background and sidebar 😉
