Different Symbian Versions and Bluetooth

I have a question regarding the several Symbian Versions. There are Symbian Versions 7, 8, and 9 out in the market currently. If I send something (for example a game, picture or mp3) via Bluetooth to each one of the operating systems) does it make a difference? Could it be that something can fail?

Thank you,
Janina

It doesn't really make any difference HOW you send anything, bluetooth just sends files, it doesn't care what the files are.

What does make a difference is WHAT you send. Pictures and MP3s will all work on all versions of Symbian because they're just standard data files that don't use the operating system. Software (including games) does use the operating system, and may not work because it may not be compatible with the OS being used on the phone it's sent to.

For example if a game was written for Symbian version 9, it won't work on a phone that uses version 8 or version 7.

Thanks Krisse for the explanation. So the problem can come with games. So what about a game produced for Symbian Version 7. Will it be compatible to Symbian version 8?

Many regards,
Janina

Games for version 7 might work on version 8, but version 9 is totally separate from previous versions.

Because of massive changes to the operating system, Version 9 is not backwards compatible, version 9 requires software written specially for it.

However, it's best not to look at the Symbian versions but at the user interface editions (for example S60 1st edition, S60 2nd edition, S60 3rd edition, UIQ2, UIQ3). It's these interface editions that appear on games to tell you which phones they will work with.
