moving my memory card message folder from my 6630 to my n73?

24 replies · 11,185 views · Started 09 October 2006

how do i do it.

On my memory card on my nokia 6630 I have a meeage folder with lots of messages in it. Nokia pc suite does not pick it up as pc suite doesnt read your own created message folders.

I put my RSMMC card in my laptop from my 6630 but i cant find any messages that way either.

What I am wanting to do is transfer my folder full of messages from ym RSMMC card on my 6630 to my memory card on my n73, any ideas how?

thanks
Liam

With PCSuite - Nokia Phone Browser - Messages - Inbox! You must copy all personal folders to Inbox, backup, and after move them to the new phone. Its hard, but only way between S60v2 and S60v3 devices.

No. Owner folders no! Only inbox, outbox and draft... Its because that You need to copy all messages first to Inbox (or to the others).

You should be able to transfer Contacts, Calendar AND Messages via Bluetooth from one Nokia handset to another using the Transfer application in the tools menu.

Run the tool on the N73 as the handset that starts the process received the data first.

I dont remenber about messages. If not, the way was the one I said.

With the greatest of respect, the above is incorrect, at least when the latest generic firmware is installed in the N73.

On the latest N series handsets (N80 and N73) Messages are optionally included in the Transfer app. synchronisation. Previous handsets (N70 etc) did not have this option.

ive got 10/07/06 RM-133,
how do i get the newer version of transfer application then please?

can someone email me just that program so I can update transfer on my n73, i really want these messages from my 6630..

or is it a case that it is because i am transfering FROM an older 6630?

To Update firmware is necessary go to a Nokia Service or wait (for N73) for Nokia Software Updater Tool - from Nokia Site.

What if i want to transfer my texts from old 3230 to new 71 and dont have 3230 cable.. ??
Can i just copy \mail\ folder from mmc to new mmc???

To transfer You should use PCSuite. The copy process is not valid between an S60v2 and S60v3 phone.

Thanx for the reply.
However what is the best procedure to succeed in the text move?
Shall i make a full backup of 3230 and restore it to N71?

Hi,

I have successfully used the Nokia Transfer app to transfer contacts and Calendar entries from an N70 (Symbian 2nd) and an N73 (Symbian 3rd).

The FW in the N70 was V5.xxxx and the latest FW available in N73.

Transfer from 2nd to 3rd edition N Series phones is definitly possible, perhaps it just depends on the FW in each phone?

Yes, true! I never remenber that, because is only used once - on new phone.
But the copy of mail folder between an S60v2 and one S60v3 is not possible any more.

I was talking about moving TEXT MESSAGES and not Contacts/Calendar which i transfered ok!

If i try to move old \system\mail to new \mail folder will it work?
Also if i try to backup 3230 and restore in N71, will it work?
I'm asking cause both are long (in time) procedures and want to finish quickly.
The reason is i have lost 3230 cable and i'm doing back up through IR which sux! 😞

1. No, because N71 is an S60v3, against S60v2 from 3230.
2. No. The backup process is for the same phone and not to another one.
3. To move the messages, if not possible with Data Transfer application (i dont remenber if is possible) the other way, not very "clean" process, is with PCSuite - Nokia Phone Browser - Messages. From 3230 to PC, then from PC to N71. But the Messages only read main folders, and not private folders, so the all thing is to move all private folders for one of main folders, like Inbox. Is a pacience process and, as I said, not a very "clean" one.

OK my apologies, we have strayed away from the original question (Texts)

It would appear that the Transfer app may not transfer texts from 2nd edition devices, so that's out. Also it would appear to be diffucult to do it with PC Suite.

Another possibility that comes to mind is Nokia's LifeBlog app

I know you can tell Lifeblog to import everything from the phone and sync it to the PC version of Lifeblog. I know this option imports all SMS/MMS/Email. I also know there's an option in the PC Lifeblog app to copy items back to the phone. You might want to give this a try?

Unfortunately I currently only have one N series phone so cannot test this out.

do i use the back up feature of pc suite then? I have tried browsing to my inbox on my 6630 highlighting all messages and pasting them into the inbox of my n73 but copy paste doesnt work like that?

also mms still dont show up in my inbox...
